Built for group feasting, these boisterous, fast-paced Italians offer whirlwind experiences in family-style dining via large platters of red-sauce cooking with a punch of garlic; granted, the Times Square outlet may be too touristy for some, but overall you can't beat it for taste and value.

Good food. The portions are huge, impossible for two people to finish. Prices very reasonable. The wait staff was very attentive and helpful.

Carmine's receives very high reviews, and at least as far as the food is concerned, it is for good reason. Shrimp Scampi is OUTSTANDING, as are the Shrimp Fra Diavlo, Chicken Marsala and Penne alla vodka. Chicken Parm is quite good, but honestly nothing special. Two massive cutlets but pounded VERY thin. Some would say it was dry, but i prefer this so it was not an issue. Needed more sauce though. Meatballs are excellent, as is the eggplant parm. Portions are quite large, just as all of the other reviews say, but one thing to note is that the seafood dishes JUST have seafood. no pasta, which is $10 extra. We ordered the two shrimp dishes (with between 10-15 large shrimp each), and between 4 people were able to polish both dishes off in no time. If opting for any of the seafood dishes, definitely spring for the pasta if you want to extend the meal a bit.

So the food is excellent, but the atmosphere is something else entirely... lobby is ridiculously small, and if you get there at a busy time there's literally no room to move or stand as you wait for your table. We had reservations, arrived about 20 minutes early and ended up waiting about 25 minutes for our table. We were basically standing right next to people eating while we were waiting, which was rude. The host kept insisting people move into the "bar" area, which didn't help much as there are chairs lining each side. Your options therefore were to stand on top of people eating or drinking, or stand in the very narrow hall where we were constantly in the way. We were a party of 4, and we regularly had to move around just to stay out of the way. REALLY uncomfortable lobby...Waiters were constantly asking for us to move so they could pass, and the greeters wandered around calling names in an effort to locate lost, in-the-way parties similar to ours whose tables were ready. My impression of the whole thing was that it was quite disorganized, not unlike the chaos happening outside on the streets of Times Square. Once we were seated it was much better experience, but i would never characterize the ambiance as anything other than hectic. It was loud and lined wall to wall with tables and patrons. There were two times when i could not return to my seat right away because i had to wait for the person at the table next to us to take their seat first. Our server, however, was excellent and very attentive to all of our needs. She explained the menu in detail and offered many recommendations for us.

So...Carmines is definitely a great place to visit. I would give the food 5 stars, but the disaster of a lobby and the atmosphere get a 3.

This place was worth all the hype, portions were huge. We ordered the chicken parm over linguine with a side of meatballs. It was to die for. We will definitely be back and highly reccomend Carmines! Also reserve your table months ahead.

This restaurant was highly recommended. I called prior to arriving and was told it was no wait as it was slow. Once I arrived I was told the wait was 45 mins to an hour and was directed to the bar to enjoy and appetizer and a drink. Once at the bar I was served my Lizabeth. She immediately stated "very rudely" that I needed to order a drink or an appetizer to sit there. I told her I understood as I wanted to see the menu. She then stated the ticket does not transfer to the table. I told her I understood. I then asked her a question about wings on the menu. She responded (as with all her responses: no smile, monotone) it would take 35 minutes. Another couple came up to order a drink....she begin smiling and talking with them. I was shocked!!....she was a different person. I then asked how long the zucchini would take...she stated 20 minutes (not suggesting an appetizer that could be prepared timely. I then ordered the zucchini that came out in 5 minutes. I tried small talk with her but she answered without even looking at me in a sarcastic manner. Good thing my table was called as Janice my served redeemed my experience with Carmine's. She was AWESOME!

Long story short don't allow Lizabeth set the tone for your restaurant. She's a liability!!!!

As for the food...the portions are very large. 2-4 people can share 1 entrée. I had the chicken parmigiana which was delicious!
