Two words: Schnitzle salad. Get a side of the honey mustard and you'll be in heaven.

This is great place to eat some really good Israeli food.
I tried the schnitzel which was delicious, soft and perfect.
I am so happy to discover this place!
I would definitely go back to try some of their breakfasts (which are served all day long).

hile checking Yelp for some high quality Mediterranean food someone heard us mention “12 chairs” and raved about the Israeli food and sold us. Whether it was guerrilla marketing or happenstance, I’m sure glad we ended up here because it was an amazing experience.

I’ve had pita and hummus before but never quite like this. Everything was extremely fresh and the staff was extremely friendly and if you know Israelis sometimes they come off as rather direct. Not here! While they have more than 12 chairs, they don’t have many tables so it’s cozy but not cramped. I loved the decor with street signs for Israel as well as pictures. I wasn’t going to embarrass myself with the tiny bit of Hebrew I know, but it was the real thing here.

Hummus is of course a must here with the fresh pita and I love the Israeli pickles on top. They are the size of gherkins but heavy on the garlic. Mmm. We wanted to sample a bit of everything so we also had the labneh with za’tar as well as another regional standby, babaganoush. Both great choices Next time I gotta try the Hummus with Mushrooms and onions.

For main courses I got the Sabich which is a hard boiled egg, pickles, eggplant, fried on a roll. It sounds unusual, but apparently it’s a common Israeli breakfast. The surprising stand out there is the hamburger which I was told by my spouse was juicy and delicious and, although this place isn’t Kosher, too often Israeli places overcook the meat. Not here.

To drink we had the mint Lemonade which tasted even better than it sounds if that’s possible. It was a refreshing drink on a hot summer day and really cleansed the palate for all the unique tastes here.

I reject not getting dessert here as all that filled me up, but I really wanted to try the blintzes. The most surprising aspect of the menu was the price. Compared to other places in the city the pricing was extremely reasonable especially given the quality of what we got.

Best Hummus in NYC from what I've experienced. Great great food! Big portions. Good prices. One of my favourite place in NYC

a charming soho israeli bistro without pretension. can get noisy - but stick to salads, simple dishes, israeli standards [chakshuka] and you will be happy you went there!
