My family and I had dinner at Chops Wednesday evening. Our experience was mixed. The manger, hostess and valet was pleasant and welcoming. However, our server left a lot to be desired. He was extremely short with us and acted a bit irritated because I questioned if the salmon I ordered was wild or farmed. Having recently moved here from Seattle where our salmon is always of the wild variety (king, sockeye, chinook and coho) I do not eat farmed fish for various reasons that are too long to list. At any rate, the server came and told me that the salmon was wild so I ordered. When my plate came and I tasted the salmon it was definitely farmed! Wild salmon has a very distinct taste and if you are accustomed to eating it, you know the difference. I never heard of Sknua Bay salmon so I looked it up on my phone. My server could have simply asked the chef and given me a correct answer instead of guessing thereby taking away my choice of what to consume. Furthermore I would hope that the chef knows the origin of the food products he's cooking.
I'm not sure I would visit Chops again: we had excellent service and an awsome dinner at Vernick's although they did not participate in restaurant week.
