Besides being a "true dive", this circa-1919 Village vet hosts live jazz and blues nightly ("slumming A-level" acts included) for ultra-"reasonable" covers; its small, "homely" basement digs and "strong drinks" appeal to youngsters and oldsters in search of the "real deal."

Loved the location. Felt like I was in my grandparent's basement (this is a good thing for me). However, it was really a turn off after having ordered the two drink minimum for each set that the next band requireda $15 cover (it was written on the chalkboard outside but it was very hard to see, we notice it as we left). The waitstaff pretty much squashed any good vibe that occurred. They were slow at the bar, not friendly, and quite frankly seemed not to like the job. After asking everyone to pay $15 70% of the clientele left. I understand how we have to support our artists I truly do but the whole vibe of the place turned me off. This experience made me reflect on how what it must have really been like back in the 60s to hear good music for very reasonable price or free. Now it's hardly possible because these locations have to pay so much in rent that all they care about is money. It's reflection of how our society has changed.New York is a gentrified money grabbing city and it shows and other people treat each other.

Shhhh... One of the best kept jazz "secrets" south of midtown.

It was an interesting experience coming here on a Friday night. They had a good amount of beer to choose from, but they weren't the best taste wise, but it was cheap $5 so I guess I can't really complain. It was pretty crowded, but people pretty much kept to their own groups of friends.

Stumbled in and glad I did. Fabulous little place minus the pretentious crap from other jazz bars in this area.

Stumbled in, fell in love with this place. Small, cozy, inviting and jazz.
