My friend and I came across the facade of the building and fell in love with its graffiti and artwork. We decided to host a photo shoot in front because I am an upcoming photographer and he, a shirt designer. Apparently we needed a permit to shoot in front of the building, which we understood and were packing up our equipment etc, when the same volunteer who told us we needed a permit, started spewing all sorts of insults and racist remarks trying to demoralize us. It was very upsetting and we couldn't understand why she was being so incredibly insolent when she could see we were packing up. We got the point, we were leaving. She only needed to tell us in a nice way we can't shoot there and I would not have felt compelled to leave this review. When we first discovered ABC Rio, I thought it would be a great idea to ask another friend, who is an art activist like myself, if he wanted to join me in volunteering and/or donating art, however if I have to work with volunteers like her, I just won't do it. And I will be sure to let friends in the art and music industry (and there are a number of them) to not volunteer, donate or have any connection to this facility that's how deeply disconcerted I was by our sole interaction with ABC Rio.
