05/09/2016 8:30 pmAbuelo's has lost some of its luster in recent years. Formerly a great mex food establishment, perfect for first dates. It is now a so-so dining experience with slow service and inconsistent food. |

01/27/2016 9:05 pmMe and my family ate here and the food was amazing! Our server was great and so sweet. The only issue would be the managers, they speak to there employees like trash and make them look stupid right in front of guest!!!this happened right in front of me and my kids!!! I don't see how someone so rude could be a manager anywhere. I am one myself and I treat my employees with full respect and kindness. My niece also worked here for a bit and said they treat there staff horribly and will fire you if you eat a single chip...wow I know they make enough money to feed there employees....I wouldn't recommend this place if your looking for a friendly environment but the food is good. Will just have to find another abuelos, not the one in Lubbock! Very very rude from the hostess to the managers. |

09/20/2015 11:05 pmThe food is very different from the traditional Tex-Mex common to Texas. We've eaten here several times and have yet to be disappointed by either the food or the service. I like the enchiladas and my husband frequently orders Chile Rellenos or "The Grande" which has just about everything you might want. I especially like the incorporation of unusual vegetables like avocados and spinach in their recipes (e.g., Enchiladas De Cozumel are great seafood topped guacamole enchiladas), as well as the variety of vegetarian dishes. Many of the side dishes are unique, such as the Espinaca (Spinach) Casserole or Abuelo’s signature Papas con Chile, a wonderful taste combination of whipped red potatoes, four cheeses, red and green peppers, and sour cream. The prices are reasonable for what you get - there are usually enough left overs for another meal.Truly a great place to relax and escape the hustle and bustle of Lubbock. |
