High standards are a given at Michael White's swanky showcase in the Langham Place Fifth Avenue Hotel, where discreet servers set down swoon-worthy, Riviera-inspired cuisine led by exceptional pastas in a sanctum of ultrasleek luxury made for celebrating something special; the prices are predictably splurge-worthy, yet its upscale clientele has no complaints.

Came here with a client and we both left very impressed. Here's the rundown:

Me: The tortelli pasta entree was filled with a creamy mascarpone and ricotta combination. The red wine glaze gave it a rich taste that was unique for a pasta dish. ($33)

Him: The Capesante dish included pan seared sea scallops with beluga lentils, baby carrots and pancetta. Even though my dish was amazing, I certainly had order envy. ($38)

Minus -1 point for less-than-attentive service. For the price, we should have had the waiter check in more than once.

Ai Fiori is a gorgeous and well executed Northern Italian restaurant on Fifth Ave. Dear Fiance treated me to the chef's tasting menu a month back as my anniversary present.

Ai Fiori is beautiful, at the top of a lazy modern spiral staircase. It is simple, elegant, and dimly lit. Diners tend to speak low and service is quickfooted and exceptionally polite. The captain was especially kind about our time restriction and made sure to explain how the service would work. Plating is very elegant, allowing one to see and taste the quality of the ingredients.

My favorites are the sturgeon caviar on cod sashimi, the lobster knuckle soup, and the chocolate semifreddo mousse. Ai Fiori knows their fish and I would heartily recommend them to a seafood lover. My only regret was not having more capacity to finish my king crab pasta or lamb chop, which were two of the heavier dishes.

Recommended for very nice dates, and I bet lunch is a great option for business people. 4 stars.

I came with a friend to Ai Fiori for a Restaurant Week lunch, hoping to knock off another place from our lists. This elegant, one-Michelin star restaurant under Michael White has garnered positive feedback and press for several years, so we both went in with high hopes, despite the revised menu. I started off with the Zuppa di Zucchine, an elegant dish which began with a bowl that only contained slivers of zucchini and chopped chive rounds, which was then submerged in a creamy, yet delicate zucchini soup. The texture was unbelievably smooth, the hints of basil and lemon added additional dimensions of flavor and acidity. To follow, the Gamba di Pollo: Three pieces of pan roasted chicken served with a portion of Cipollini onions and roasted garlic as well as a preparation of fregola, a pasta that bears the most resemblance to couscous. Dessert featured a panna cotta with raspberries and pomegranate seeds and a side of crushed pistachios. The meal was executed and timed well, and although it was lighter in portion, made for a satisfying lunch.

I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. I picked it on OpenTable not knowing anything about it. It was fantastic and way nicer than I expected. The ambiance and decor is five-stars, the service is impeccable and the food was superb. I really enjoyed dining here. The food is seasonal, the menu changes regularly. I like that. Our server, Joseph, gave perfect descriptions of all the courses to help us in our selection. The portions are very small, so I recommend an appetizer and meal.

Top-notch NYC dining!!!
