Aladdin's Eatery, Toledo, Ohio, Lebanese Restaurant Details

Food:

We were greeted by a friendly server as soon as we entered, and were pleased with his great service during the entirety of our stay. The food was delicious, from the falafel, Jasmine's rice with fish, and the shwarama that my cousin had. Also, we had fresh blended smoothies, and they were also great.

Overall, great atmosphere and decor, great service, and great food. Next time I'm in Toledo, I will be back!

I wasn't too impressed with their food or the restaurant's service (and by that, I mean the "back service"--our waitress was great). It was ok for mediterranean food. There are better places in Toledo to go, such as Ferdos, Grapeleaf Diner, or there's one on Reynold's whose name is escaping me right now.

Their grapeleaves tasted like the smell of an ashtray--wasn't impressed. Not very tasty or appetizing at all--not sure what they did to them.

As far as the "back service," and the store owner--NOT impressed. First off, I am on a gluten-free diet. My gluten-free dish automatically comes with pita, which isn't gluten-free, thus they did not bring it to me (yet, I was still charged the price which comes with the pita). My salad came out with 1 and a half thin slices of tomato, 3 slices of cucumber, and just 3 olives. I requested more olives (3 for that large of a salad was quite stingy). The waitress came out with more olives and reported, "A side of olives is just $.55." I thought, 'Really? I saved them on pita...they only gave me 3 olives with my entire salad...and they are charging me for more olives? How greedy!'

I replied, "Wow, really? You charge for olives? I was only given 3...which is not much for this salad...Are 3 olives all that typically comes with this salad?" She said, "I guess so. I was told in the back it is $.55 for more olives."

I thought that was quite stingy--I saved them money on pita...yet they wouldn't give me more than 3 olives for my salad WITHOUT an extra charge. VERY poor customer service in my opinion. At any other restaurant, there would have been no charge for more than 3 olives. Aladdin--or whomever the owner actually is--should work on this.

Furthermore, the owner happily greets all the customers--and on the face of it, seems very kind and friendly. However, my fiance and I heard him scold our waitress in the open area when she was wiping off a table next to us, and said "We do things the way we do for a reason!" He had a very nasty tone with her--and she was nothing but kind to us--and I think he professed a great deal of unprofessionalism when speaking to his employee like that 1) at all and 2) in an open area. His tone was completely different with her than it was with all the arriving customers. It was like seeing Jekyll and Hyde...

We'll be choosing one of the OTHER mediterranean restaurants to visit after this experience--I don't like stingy, I don't like rude, and I don't like two-faced.

The lamb was under cooked so the guy took it back and said he warm it up in the microwave still was pink...

Food:

The food and overall atmosphere of the restaurant is wonderful and we would go back (but we do not live here). The service was a bit ditsy, appetizers took a *long* time to come out and were followed immediately by our main course. Lots of confusion over small points of what is included and what is extra. Keep a copy of the menu and ask twice when in doubt. Everyone around us seemed to have had no issues at all, so it is not a big issue.

The restaurant is in a small shopping center building near a big mall. The dining room is pretty, and they serve wine and beer. The menu is big with lots of variety for reasonable prices. The quality of the dishes is good. With its great variety of cakes, this is a reasonable place to come just for dessert.
