A major thumbs down on this place :-(

We've been going to Alivia's since it opened and have gradually seen the quality and variety of food diminish. Our most recent visit (which shall be the LAST) was a major disappointment. We recommend others do as we and find some place where consumers matter, are appreciated, and heard.

I brought my daughter to Aliva's on Mother's Day weekend for brunch. When we arrived, which was around noon, they werent packed and there didnt seem to be an official hostess, so we stood around for a few minutes before we were seated. First, we had the bruschetta(with tomatoes, mushrooms, leeks and artichokes covered in a tantalizing garlic butter sauce), which was absolutely AMAZING. I ordered the bacon and egg spinach salad, while my daughter had Shrimp Risotto. Afterwards, we indulged on a generous slice of creamy chocolate cake. The food was brought to us in a timely manner and our glasses were kept full. I was pleased with the food and the service. We plan on returning.

Ordered the hamburger and turkey sandwich and kids portion of macaroni and cheese. The portions were small for all three dishes. The turkey sandwich had only three slices of turkey. The mixed drinks had very little alcohol. Service was okay.

Went there again in Jan 2015 for Sunday brunch. The food was tasty but the portions were small. The drinks are still watered down especially the bloody marys

Alivia's hosted and catered my wedding reception, and my husband and I, as well as all of our guests, could not have been more pleased. The food and drink were great, and the staff went out of their way to make sure everyone had a great time. Their food truck also has a killer burger!

Have lived in Durham 30 years. Love the restaurants but have always avoided this place only because of the appearance and location. It was recommended to me twice by an individual who works next door to it. Ate there for the first time last week and ordered the Ahi Tuna for lunch. 3 of us all together. Blown away. Spectacular meal and service. Maybe my best meal that I have ever had downtown. I will be back. Hidden gem. My buddy got the crab cake sandwich and gave it a solid thumbs up. I gave him some of my tuna which I later regretted. Ate indoors as it was a little warm outside. Great place.
