Great market, high quality products. Butcher counter has great meat. Produce is fresh. Fruit selection really stands out. Prices are very high, usually $1 to $2 more than Whole Foods - adds up quickly.

Very overpriced. Not the place to go for regular groceries.

I love this place! The guys that work here are always so friendly. I love to chat with them when I can. They carry a decent selection of food although the prices make it hard to buy a lot. They're great for that mid afternoon ice cream craving though. Outside is where the amazing fresh produce is found. Every time I walk by I want to buy the seasonal fruit they display.

I try to avoid this place if I can. The selection is ok, the staff is alright also but the prices are ridiculous. When you can go down to the liquor store and buy the same product for a dollar less something is wrong.

3 stars because this market is overpriced. Cole Valley is a wealthy neighborhood and Alpha Market takes advantage of this. I drop by Alpha on an single item, as-needed basis.

To their credit, they have all basic household items: fresh produce, average wine selection, butcher's, freshly baked bread, and they are clean. They are also fairly personable and if you need an item that they do not carry, the owner is obliged to order it on your behalf (see $$$$$).

If you want a wider selection and/or better prices, I suggest hopping on the N-Line. In either direction, you soon find better options:

Going east, you have Castro Safeway within two stops.

Going west, there is 22nd & Irving Market with fantastic produce at remarkably low prices. No household items or alcohol, but you can easily satisfy such needs en route to 22nd & Irving.

Walking north to Haight, you can take the 33 bus to Clement and walk to New May Wah Supermarket on Clement & 8th, As you might gather, New May Wah is an Asian market and a highly affordable one at that. They have an expansive fresh seafood and meat section, although, the sources of their meat may warrant some research.
