The legendary pizza is worth the often formidable wait at this Sunnyside institution where they take their craft very seriously, turning out perfectly charred crusts crowned with delicious toppings; service is chill, and the scene is bustling despite rules like offering carryout Monday–Thursday only, based on dough availability.

My rating is on how they do business, not the pizza because unfortunately I never got to try it! I've heard great things about this place and being a lover of all things pizza, wanted to give it a try. First time I was there, the wait was about an hour just to get a table. Sorry, I was hungry and can't imagine any pizza being worth that wait. Second time I thought I'd get it to go. Waited in line about 20 minutes, not because there was such a long line, maybe 4 people ahead of me, but because the service is painfully slow. Once it was my turn I placed my to go order. The hostess looked incredulous and asked the people in line behind me if any were eating in, and how many pies they wanted. I was too shocked to even comment! Who does this?! After coming to the conclusion that there would be 4 or 5 "eat in" orders in line behind me, she said unapologetically that she couldn't take my order. Wow. And this was before 9pm on a Friday night. Not sure why anyone would give money to a business that operates like that, I certainly won't be back. A lot of great pizza places around town that at least act like they value their customers. So caveat emptor - go at your own risk.

Eh.....
I don't know what the big deal is with this place? I ate there last week and have to say I was a little disappointed. After seeing this place on a repeat of TVs food paradise I was totally jazzed up to eat there.
1) Black pizza crust is BURNT pizza crust. If I want to eat charcoal, I'll just go to my fireplace.
2) If you like eating pizza under regime rules this is the place for you.
3) So many other pizza places in town shame this place.
4) If you like waiting in line enjoy. Seems like the owner thinks this is funny. Ego...
5) Price is outrageous. For what they charge I can get so much more somewhere else. Again, ego seems to be at play here.

So, given the fact that the owner can only make a certain amount of dough per day leads me to conclude that he does not know how to make it on a larger scale. Outside of taste (which is like a Fred Meyer pizza). Apizza is 3 on a scale of 1 to 10. I will never eat here ever again.

In ending. I'm a Chef. Anything black on anything with crust is Brunt.

Best pizza! Sorry to my hometown Chicago! Perfect pizza and staff. You can even watch them make the pizzas and they are happy to share their secrets...well most of them. Long wait times but so worth it!

If you like simple pepperoni pizza, they've got the best! The dough is chewy and perfectly charred. When I moved to Portland two years ago, I couldn't find any pizza that I liked. It was all super thin floppy stuff with minimal flavor. I was soooo happy when I finally had Apizza. It's my #1 for pizza in Portland.

Would have to say my favorite pizza in Portland. The menu is simple short yet has a great variety. The staff is very friendly and nice. I enjoy the fact that the waitresses andd waiters are not bothering you every 2 seconds but they know when you need something.
