Applebee's, Lake Grove, New York Restaurant Details

Food:

Really low on the totem pole in terms of chain restaurants. Only thing i see this useful for is a late night option. Other than that, I'd avoid it. Low quality food, sub par service, and fairly run down atmosphere.

I went to this AppleBee's a few months ago to get some drinks with 5 friends. We were so excited to release some stress because Stony Brook University can really beat you down. The hostess was okay and the waiter was funny. We went through normal procedure, our I.D.s were shown to the waiter and everything seem fine until he got to mine. It is a Colombian passport. I had never had a problem with it and when he said he had to ask his manager about it I was not phased. That was until the Manager DOMINIC PIAZZA got there and dear god did it get bad.

Dominic Piazza refused to serve me alcohol despite the fact that I presented a valid Colombian passport. I was surprised at first because I have never had a problem with this passport. In fact AppleBees has been a popular destination for me and my friends and I have never had an issue at any location until that day. What seemed to be an easily solvable situation became awkward and offensive after the managers disgusting and illogical explanation. I tried to explain that I was not able to get another government issued ID because I am not an American citizen and have not been able to get a state ID or American passport. He disregarded that fact and continued to deny me any drinks. I offered my my school ID and my credit card as proof that my ID's match and he still denied me drinks. Things only got worst when he started to insinuate that no passport can be as cheap looking as mine. He pointed out that my passport looked fake because it wasn't "laminated" and didn't resemble an American passport. I tried to tell him that not all passports looked a like but he kept interrupting me. He also pointed out that he though my picture was glued on to the passports and picked at it like it was trash.

This managers made me feel absolutely horrible. He kept emphasizing that my passport looked fake, a point that made me feel like he thought that if a passport doesn't look American it is probably third world trash or fake. Obviously his passport knowledge was lacking, because I have gone to countless places that have had no problem with my id including Buffalo Wild Wings which I visited after I was humiliated at Apple bees in front of friends.

I contacted AppleBee's after this and filed a complaint. It seemed like this could not get any worse but it did. They took the side of the manager disgusting actions not once but twice! When I saw that I was getting no where with the first person I filed another complaint and someone else called me to just result in the same end. I told them that he picked at my passport. LITERALLY! With his nails as if it had not cost ME MONEY! As if it were some trash! They did not care. I was so incredibly disappointed and regretted even contacting them in the first place.

I would advice all international students who might use a passport for I.D. to stay clear of this awful place. This manager was either an idiot or an antisemitic idiot and AppleBees did nothing but support him. This happened a few months ago and I still am soooo angry about the whole situation. I even contemplated legal action.

I hope they know that I will no longer be visiting that restaurant, and will most definitely be telling my friends and anyone I can tell not to go to AppleBees as they have suppressed ignorant bigots working there.

Great prices after 10pm so there is a bit of a wait time if you visit. Fresh dishes and lots of selection. Anything with shrimp taste really good. Bring your friend so you can select 2 for $20 Menu with appetizer.
