Applebee's, Minneapolis, Minnesota Restaurant Details

Food:

Absolutely terrible service. I waited 10 minutes to get anything to drink and that was because I went up to the bartender and he went to find our server. We ordered on the spot and then waited another 10 minutes for our Caesar salads. After we were done with that, we both had empty waters. The main course was fine but then we proceeded to sit there and wait for the check. I had to go find the manager to tell her we were ready to leave, the people next to us (who sat down before us) needed a box, and the people SHE, the manager, sat needed drinks (they had also been sitting for 10 minutes). I've been in the food industry for a very long time and was even a restaurant manager, so I normally give people the the benefit of the doubt. Never, in my entire life, have I had that terrible of service.

Food:

I'm usually late for my car side to go pick up and the food is still always hot and fresh. The one time I show up on time I get stuck with 4 orders of cold boneless chicken. Gross

A friend & I came in recently for a casual dinner/happy hour. Who can resist those delicious bar snacks?! We sat in the bar area, and we got great service from our bartenders, Phil & Joy. Props to both for dealing with my indecisiveness and giving some good recommendations. Also, I can't forget to thank the manager Crystal. She checked in with us and was super friendly and personable. It was obvious that she was really involved in helping her servers and bartenders to keep the restaurant moving during an evening dinner rush. I can't remember the last time I visited an Applebee's before this visit, so I was pleasantly surprised. Thanks!

Where to start...

Menus need to be updated. Plain and simple.

It was busy at the time we went. Service was a bit slow, however, at the peak of dinner time it is expected and forgivable.

My favorite menu item from Applebee's is the chicken wonton taco appetizer. I've had it every single trip to Applebee's for the last 4 years. The Asian style slaw really brings this dish together for me. When the food arrived, I was surprised to see creamy cole slaw with some cilantro added to it. Asian style slaw has nothing to do with creamy cole slaw, a fact that everyone should be able to agree with. Everyone except the "manager" Crystal, who was combative and argumentative. She could only tell me that every Applebee's uses the same recipe and what I got served to me was said recipe. Photographic evidence of my plate is available. To my protest, which included the plate plus the Applebee's menu photograph, she could only respond with "I'm sorry you feel that way." If this were an opinion, her condescending non-apology might have been valid. Creamy cole slaw with cilantro does not Asian style slaw make.

At the a Roseville location last week when I had the chicken wonton tacos, they were served with the correct slaw. When I urged her to call them to ask because that is the way I've had it served to me at 3 other Applebee's around Minnesota, but she absolutely refused.

Crystal does not perform well under pressure nor does she understand the essence of customer service. I will be making further complaints up the management food chain until this issue is correctly and appropriately corrected.

Food:

I'm not usually a HUGE fan of Applebee's - it feels too much like a chain restaurant to me. However, my boyfriend and I had a very good experience there last night. I believe our server was named Hibbert, and he was great! He made good suggestions without being pushy and gave us as much time as we needed without making us feel abandoned. It was nice to get such good service at a restaurant that we don't usually have the highest of expectations for.
