The atmosphere was not good and the food was average. I love ethiopian food and have eaten it at a few different restaurants. We were the only people there and the tv was blasting.

I love this place!
I've been 5-6 times and the food is always amazing.
Normally I have a friend or two with me that hasn't tried Ethiopian so we'll split the vegetarian combo and the meat combo.
Grab a veggie or meat Samosa or two for an appetizer they're great and the sauce served with them is simply incredible.

I've read a few of the reviews stating that the service was terrible, however, I have never received less than 5 star service. The servers are always prompt in seating us and always check up every few minutes to see if we need more water or injera.

The only bad thing I can say about Asmara is that every time I come here they are out of their Honey Wine so I haven't been able to try it yet. Other than that, 5 stars all around.

Terrible experience. We ordered a meat combination while we were on a call. Later when I apologized & asked if I can have chicken instead of beef, the waitress showed attitude. But gotta admit in the end the food was good enough.

I came in for lunch, 12:30 on a Saturday afternoon. I was the only customer there so they said to sit wherever I wanted. They have a shaded porch in the back, so I chose to sit out there. One of the owners asked me, "Really? You want to sit out there?" Seemed a little rude to me, but whatever, not a big deal.
I asked him what he would recommend from the menu and he pointed to the two largest and most expensive items on the menu which were sampler platters. When I asked him which single item from the sampler was best, he just kept repeating the whole sampler platter. I ended up ordering something other than the sampler platter, one of their appetizers, and just water to drink. Apparently they don't do free water, because they brought me a bottle and charged me for it.
It took them over 15 minutes to bring me (the only customer) the appetizer I ordered. They checked back once on me while I was eating, but not near the end of the meal so I ended up having to go in and get my check from them where I found the server having a conversation with someone on the phone. She didn't bother to hang up or even put them on hold as I asked for the check and she handed it to me.
The food tasted fine, but the rest of the experience was so bad that I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone. There are other places to get food just as good (or better) and have a much better dining experience in general.
