Au Bon Pain, Washington, District of Columbia Restaurant Details

Food:

I guess I should have read the other review before visiting. I placed an order and waited for someone to show up to the register so I could pay for my order. I got most of the order and returned to the counter; they had forgotten to make one of the sandwiches. Other than that, everything tasted fine.

Food:

Baked goods and coffee are delicious. Staff is not terribly friendly, service is average, and there is very little seating. Coffee prices are very reasonable, but fresh goods are way overpriced.

This store has horrible service. Orders screwed up, employees not helpful or friendly.

If I could give this place (Indiana Ave location) negative stars, I would. I stopped in at 7:10 p.m. on Tuesday. Doors were open. Two black men behind the cafe counter, one black woman at the cashier. I waited by the cafe counter for five minutes, while both men ignored me. They were both standing right there, would not address me, ask me what I wanted, or reply that the counter was closed. There was food in the case so I assumed it wasn't closed. Went over to the pastries, the cashier was sweeping the floor. I asked her if I could still purchase anything since I wasn't sure because neither man would even address me let alone take an order, she wouldn't answer. I asked what time they closed, she wouldn't answer. I put the box back that I was going to use for the pastries and walked out. I believe since they were all black and I was white there was definitely some discrimination going on and I do plan to take legal action. I have never been treated so disrespectfully. What is it with the people in this city. DISCRIMINATION!

My comments pertain specifically to the Au Bon Pain store at 601 Indiana Ave NW, Washington, DC

Their Saturday store hours are shown on Google as open till 7 pm, I went there on Saturday 11/01/14 at 5:45 pm they were closed.

On weekdays if you want soup, forget about it after 5 pm when there are maybe two kinds left at the bottom of their containers if you are lucky. Same story with regard to bagels and various popular pastries - all sold out; despite the fact that store hours are until 8 pm on weekdays. When any of these sold out menu items are brought to the attention of the manager three (3) hours before closing time, instead of opening a new container of soup he just grins shrugs his shoulders says "it's the end of the day". Inadequate air conditioning during the summer is another problem.

Finally, the prices are ridiculous, a single jalapeno cornbread muffin is $2.29 and two hardboiled eggs $1.79 I no longer patronize this store.
