The Bali Hai is a wonderful location for your next wedding or party. I've DJ'd there many times, and it's always a pleasure to work there. Not only do they have fabulous city and bay views, but the staff is always friendly and helpful. They have both indoor and outdoor options available as well!

I went to this place years ago for a friend's birthday and I'll admit that the view is absolutely breathtaking. However, their seafood entrees fall flat of flavor and their service is not memorable. If I were to recommend fresh seafood, I would say Boathouse wins for exceptional food and service.

My wife is the kind of person who looks at the reviews, picks out all the negatives, and decides that the place sounds no good. I, on the other hand, tend to think that a place is probably not as bad as the bad reviews and not as good as the best reviews, but somewhere in between.

Let's get the major points out of the way first - the evening view across the bay to downtown SD is to die for. And the signature Mai Tai is essentially half a pint of neat rum; the warning on the menu could not be any clearer, so don't order that unless you are up for that experience. Try another cocktail instead - the Zombie was potent but well balanced in flavor. The restaurant was maybe about half full and not at all noisy, and the service was friendly, courteous and efficient.

I can't speak for all the dishes. We had the starter for sharing, which had tuna, spring rolls, edamame and coconut prawns - all good. We hadn't realized that the tuna was sashimi, which didn't appeal to the wife, but I enjoyed it. We cleaned the plate. For main, the sea bass looked and tasted beautiful, and the short rib yakisoba was tasty and filling, though not hugely spicy. (I don't know whether Balinese is supposed to be spicy, but Japanese usually not, I guess.) My son declared the ribeye steak "pretty decent", which is good praise. The portions were sufficiently generous that we declined dessert.

The check came to just under $200 + tip for four of us, including three cocktails and a bottle of white wine plus a glass of red. Money well spent.

My husband and daughter rented your Tiki Room for a retirement party for me last night, September 28th, 2014. I just wanted to write you a note and let you know how great the room, food, and service was. The food was fantastic and the service was unbelievable. Everyone that attended was very impressed and I heard several people say that they would be coming back for dinners. Please thank everyone for me.

The views from this place are BREATHTAKING! Even if the brunch was horrific, the amazing view more than made up for it.

Lucky for my family, the food was okay. The one thing I loved about BH was the fact there were a million options, including a noodle/pho station. The downfall, because there were so many options, the phrase "jack of all trades, master of none" fits it perfectly. The food was good but nothing particularly was amazing.

The staff was extremely friendly. The owner and his son (who also happened to work the host desk) even came over to the table and introduced themselves. That, on top of the free flowing mimosas, definitely made brunch great.

A multimillion-dollar remodel has breathed new life into this "charming" Hawaiian-Polynesian throwback on Shelter Island, with gorgeous, 180-degree views of the harbor and Downtown skyline visible from nearly every seat; some knock the menu for being fairly limited and a bit overpriced for what you get, but on-the-spot service, potent drinks (including the "world-famous" mai tai) and an amazing Sunday brunch secure its reputation as a San Diego tradition.
