Food quality has gone downhill, terrible customer service today, and questionable overall value.

We have been going to Ball's for years. We followed it as it left Snider Plaza, over to its Northwest Highway location, as we have loved the juicy burgers cooked medium rare, big onion rings, and sliders for the kids.

Well, today was our last day to visit Ball's as our experience was just terrible.

First, we arrived at 12:20 and the place was empty. Only one other table. This place used to be packed all of the time, especially on a beautiful fall Saturday. However, I think everyone else has realized that this is no longer a great place for a burger. Plus Dallas has so many new and better options (Liberty Burger, anyone?)

I ordered my burger with no mayo. (Why the default is mayo at this place, I will never understand). And my wife ordered hers, also with no mayo. I even reminded her that she should not get it with mayo, and then she stated, "No mayo". So the counter help, should have heard it twice.

We paid, and went to go play the games.

This place has a bunch of old video games. Sadly, it is what draws our kids in there, but most of the time the games don't work, Ms Pacman is 50 cents, and the games are not even fun in a retro way.

When we got our burgers, we noticed that our onion rings, 2 layers of breading, and they were really dark and greasy. It was as if they had been refried. Plus our fries were cold. There was no one else in the places, so I guess they gave us the ones that had been sitting around.

My wife bit into her burger, and you guessed it, there was mayo on it. My burger was okay, a little extra charred, but it was also pink in the middle as I had ordered it (Medium rare).

I took the burger up to the counter and told them that it was not supposed to have mayo on it. A different person than who rung us up, dug for our ticket and told me that they had written down "no onions". I said okay, but she didnt want it with mayo. Reluctantly, and with much attitude, she said okay, and said that she will bring it out to us.

When they brought the burger back out, my wife looked at it and said....."Someone took a bite out of this burger." And then we realized that it was not a new burger, but they had taken the patty off of the previous burger, and put a new bun and vegetables on it! They didn't make a new burger, they just switched it out. In all of my years, I have never seen such as move. If the burger is screwed up, you get a new burger.

So my wife went back this time, and told them that she wanted a new burger. The counter help didn't really understand, and was trying to play dumb, and then told us that they put it on a new bun. This was such a confusing exchange and a confusing way to fix the problem that others in line were also laughing at the thought that just switching out the bun was acceptable. They made us a new burger, brought it to the table, and handed it to us. Such as poor experience. It should have been a pretty simple exchange, and someone needs to learn the old adage, "the customer is always right".

Needless to say we are not going back, and told our kids to say goodbye to Ball's. Sad.

I can't believe I actually paid 12.99 for a burger, tots, and a soda. Yes, the food was good, but when they called my order they had fries with my burger instead of tots. I politely reminded the staff that I ordered tots and the staff member's response was, "are you sure? Are you sure you don't want the fries?"

I have loved Balls Hamburgers since the first time I set foot inside. They are a wonderful gormet burger cooked to perfection and served with the highest quality fixins. I love the sports atmosphere, but it is definately a family friendly environment with old video games for the kids. My boys love to come visit daddy at work and go to Balls Hamburgers for lunch.
