02/22/2016 10:16 pmWent there on 2/20/15 with two friends at 7pm. We figured we would grab a couple of beers before pizza. My friend bought the first round and I bought the second but had to get up from the end of the bar and wait in line to order beer. It was not that crowded and the bartender's was attitude was just ok. However what bothered me the most was that a freshly poured beer landed in my lap and purse as my friend and I were signing out our tabs at the same time and we collided when putting our cards away. We asked for a bar towel and she threw us a wet one. Ok I was soaked and needed a dry towel. Another customer reached around the bar to grab a dry one. After drying myself and the bar I explained to the bartender what happened and ask nicely if it was possible to get a replacement beer. She laughed and asked if we thought this place was Baskin & Robbins and continued ignoring us. I have worked in the service industry for years and never have I experienced such behavior. I just wish this happened before I filled in my tip. I will never go back. |

10/02/2012 2:38 amBar of the Gods is possibly the perfect dive bar. Dark, cozy and strong drinks. Not too loud, not too quiet. The shot menu is extensive and fun. But they also poor a strong mixed drink and have a good selection of beer. So bottoms up! |

09/04/2011 5:15 amCan a dive bar be classy? I dunno but the BoG is a dive bar. It's cramped, small, can be packed at times. Seating can easily be at a premium. Nestled on the East end of Hawthorne, it's a definite stop for any Hawthorne pub crawl, and a good place to just go to have drinks. Their bar menu is different than most and a good value. You can find good drink specials and cheap cold beer. I gave up smoking, but if you're a smoker, their smoking area is heated and actually comfortable. It's not a place to go for a date, and it's not a place to go for conversation, but to hang out or grab a drink, it's solid. |
