Barbacoa, Boise, Idaho Restaurant Details

Food:

I hate to write a bad review, but the service of our waiter tonight was extremely dissapointing. I know everyone can have a bad day or make a mistake but our server was exceptionally rude the entire length of our visit. Everything would've been wonderful had it not been for our disrespectful waiter. For example: my sister asked for a different drink than the one she had before. He didn't bring her the one she asked for and instead brought her the first drink she had had. She didn't complain and just took it. Later on when he was bringing drinks to everyone else she said "oh can I please get that drink I asked for?" And in a very condascending tone he told her " I only have two hands". I was shocked he spoke to her like this. Later, when he finally brought the drink as he was handing it to her in a rude voice he said "you're welcome." In a very sarcastic tone. She hadn't even had the chance to thank him before he said that!!!!! These are just a couple examples but the moral of the story is I didn't feel like a guest. I felt very much like an inconvenience. I love to go out and spend money and tip my servers well, but I will not tolerate being treated like that when I am at a restaurant. I hope the management takes this review seriously because I love this restaurant and the food but the server will make or break your experience at barbacoa. Its very serious to create loyalty...I will give barbacoa another chance and I hope this will be enough to wake them up.

Dinner was average... Food is usually above par! Service was good to start of with and towards the end, it fell off (Diminish). Beer was good, but mixed drinks was questionable. The manager made an attempt to fix the problems, but to no avail. This is not our fist time here, and normally we love it, but tonight was unacceptable.

Staff was very good. I don't think the food justifies the price.

Barbacoa easily has the most unique atmosphere of any restaurant in Boise! That, combined with an amazing happy hour and the best guacamole I've ever had, makes it a great place to take visiting friends or family!

Great atmosphere, good friendly & attentive service and excellent food. However, the style of the presentation of the food overshadows and distracts from the quality of food. The food should be the star.

My steak was served on a plank and the food kept falling off the edges of the plank. My wife ordered the rack of ribs. First, they didn't have a bib nor were they interested in helping her fashion one. Her ribs were delicious but she lost interest because there was a scaffolding over the ribs holding the sauce and coleslaw (yes, interesting, but ....) that was an obstacle to her being able to comfortably and conveniently cut and eat her ribs.

Her drink, a Geisha, was served in a ridiculously complicated martini shaker that leaked; and, then the drink was poured into an ice glass that leaked when it, and the real glass holding it, were tipped up to sip.

There was no salt on the table and when we asked for it the waiter brought out a 3-pot container of himalayan pink, hawaiian black and another esoteric selection. I'm a big fan of himalayan pink but it was very pretentious and overkill -- just put the salt on the table.

THE FOOD IS VERY GOOD AND WAS SERVED HOT AND IN A TIMELY FASHION. The restaurant itself and its surroundings are very attractive. The waitstaff are attractive and pleasant. We're from the SF Bay Area and used to dine in the finest restaurants in SF, Napa and Sonoma, etc. -- we're very familiar with fine dining -- but don't distract from the food and drink by trying to be stylish.
