Love the food and love the drinks but seriously, servers are stretched way too thin. You would get 5 stars if I could get in and out without a planned few hours

When I’m in the mood for Mexican, but want to trick myself into being healthy—I come to Barrio Star.

All their items are cooked on the healthier side of things from your average taco shop. And if you’re looking for gluten-free and vegan options, never fear! Barrio Star is here.

My favorite go-to dish is their signature “Barrio Bowl,” which is a colorful blend of a few of my favorite things. But keep in mind your wallet may pay for the price; that tasty bowl costs $14 (before tax & tip) for me when I add in protein. Definitely a more “glam lunch” type of option on my budget.

The Latin and Spanish fusion décor makes me feel like my bags are packed to Spain, though sadly they’re not. And did I mention their margaritas? Try them. You’ll thank me. Speaking of drinks, pick-up orders can get a little uncomfortable at times considering you pick-up your order from the bar. As people are sipping away on those tasty margaritas, here you are rubbing elbows and asking the bartender if they remembered your pico de gallo. Or, maybe that’s just me.

Anyways, lunch at Barrio Star constitutes as a good day. Then again, Mexican food any day is a good day, but I digress.

Kitschy little place on banker's hill with relatively healthy "new Mexican." Great margaritas, the roasted jalapeno blackberry one is especially tasty. Be sure to call ahead for availability and hours, sometimes they aren't consistent.

Visited many times and have never left disappointed. The decor is very unique with the day of the dead theme throughout as well as colorful skull pieces and sparkling light fixtures that draw your eye. Used a Group-on last time $11 for $20 for breakfast or lunch. Well worth it. I had the power breakfast burrito and my wife had the blackberry pancakes, egg whites, and bacon on the side. Both were fantastic! Happy hour is very happy with good deals on bites and cocktails. The pequeno bowl (don't know if I am spelling this right) is my favorite. I don't know what type of spices they put on the chips, but the stuff is legit awesome! Peak hours can be hard to find parking around 5th street so plan ahead.

DEE-licious! I'm mexican and although this isn't 100% authentic Mexican food, it's just tex-mex and just Mexican enough. The bowls are to die for and the cocktails are great!

Modern Mexican cuisine, including creative tacos, and "amazing" blackberry-jalapeño margaritas are the draw at this hip, fun cantina in Bankers Hill from Isabel Cruz; sweet service, reasonable prices and colorful Dia de los Muertos–themed decor complete the picture.
