09/28/2010 4:18 pmBarry owns his own building in a low-traffic part of town. He cooks food slowly, which means that each item has to cost more. To pass the time, head waiter Richard cheerfully discusses the food and, if you like, will genuinely get to know you. |

02/17/2010 4:03 amFive of us went to Barry's Oasis on 13 February 2010 believing the food was going to be what it is hyed up to be. We were all wrong. The gyro meat tasted like hot dogs and the spaghetti and tomato sauce tasted like it came form a can. I paid $84.30, what Barry charged me at the restaurant. I even gave him a $5.00 tip. I returned home, the following morning I checked my bank statement. Barry charged me an extra $11.00 more after I left the restaurant. Legitimate business? I got ripped off by Barry!!! |

02/11/2010 6:32 pmMy husband and I dine here whenever we can for the supurb food, delightful atmosphere, and the cordial and kind service. The Oasis is a quiet little getaway where you can count on a memorable experience. Who knew such fine dining could be found in Albuquerque without putting on airs or getting out a second mortgage? I for one and my husband for another both adore this place! |

07/20/2009 3:40 amJust visited for the first time after reading a review on "Gil's Thrilling (And Filling) Blog" (if you live in the ABQ area and are looking for good food, give his site a glance). My guy and I were able to get seats easily, probably because it was a Sunday evening, but with only a dozen or so tables I can see why they suggest calling ahead or making reservations. Started with the Oasis Appetizer Plate, followed by Seafood Crepes for me and Lamb and Feta Lasagna for him, and then some chocolate fudge pie for dessert (we were rather hungry). The appetizer plate was pretty decent, but the main course and dessert were amazing. I can see why he wouldn't want to give up the recipe for the crepes to "Gourmet" magazine, pretty soon everybody would be making it to tempt people into their restaurants. Didn't try the lasagna myself, but considering how many times I heard a satisfied sigh followed by "man... that was really good" on the ride home, I think it was a good choice. The chocolate fudge pie is a definite yes. The chef himself came out several times to check on us and seemed like a very nice guy, maybe a bit gruff but very likable. The only warning I would give is don't go if you're in a hurry to get in and out - there's a very laid back atmosphere, perfect if you like to take your time during dinner but probably frustrating for those on their way to something else after. |
