Bay Club Hotel & Marina, San Diego, California Restaurant Details

My husband and I stayed 5 nights and found nothing wrong with the room nor the location on Shelter Island. I was hesitant to book at the Bay Club due to reviews, but The Best Western Palms Plus where we usually stay had messed up our reservation so we cancelled and the Bay Club came up with a room 2 days before we drove out. Granted, it was on the ground-level and the patio faced the parking lot and the Bay, but it was fine for us. We like privacy and not a lot of fussiness. Our male waiter that first night at dinner was awesome. Our waitress the last night for dinner wasn't so attentive and a tad rude, but the food was outstanding. The people at the front desk were very friendly and helpful as were those that cleaned the room. The gift shop is tiny, but the Best Western doesn't even have a shop. We walked everywhere we wanted to go for dining outside the hotel and sailing except drove to Anthony's Fish Grotto on the harbour. If you want lots of excitement, Shelter Island is not the place to stay. We planned a relaxing vacation and the Bay Club exceeded our expectations.

Food:

Disappointing so far. Marina view rooms are definitely the better way to go versus bay view rooms. We're overlooking a parking lot, busy road and then there's the bay in the distance. Avoid rooms 247 (next to elevator) and 263 (across from elevator) -- both have partial views on an angle. Rooms are clean and nice, though. Front desk staff is below average at best. Pool is on par with a low grade motel. Combine with a 4 pm checkin time and this place loses its appeal. Definitely not the place if you're looking for a relaxing getaway with your significant other.

A very overpriced stay to say the least. Had a Marina View room that was clean but dated. The doors are chipping badly, the cable channels only worked half the time, and the room was very basic for $220 and it's not even right on the bay. They forgot about our room special, tried to charge us for parking, and someone else's drinks were on our bill. So many more choices to be had and we regret ever booking the room.

Perfect location for a humphreys show and Bali hai is walking distance for presentation show festivities
