Bd's Mongolian Grill, Indianapolis, Indiana, Asian Restaurant Details

Food:

The boyfriend and I love Mongolian buffet-style stuff, but our trip to this BD's pretty much ruined our day. They don't have signs saying not to pour your sauce over the food before bringing it to the chef, so of course we flavored our food as we have at other Mongolian restaurants. We didn't see the sauce cups until we had already done it but figured it was no big deal. Didn't even mind the burnt taste of the food, really, but the chef YELLED at us. We weren't standing in the right place, so he shouted at us to move. When he put our food on the grill, he was very sarcastic and rude in presenting the burnt food to us saying "that's what we get" and not to blame it on his cooking. Very condescending and overall unfriendly to my boyfriend who was trying to be polite and smile through it.

We won't be going back, that is for sure! The manager came over to ask after us, and I do appreciate this. The waiters were very friendly and courteous, but the chef could use a lesson in customer service and needs an attitude adjustment. I understand the grill is very hot, and he was no doubt tired but that sort of rudeness should not be tolerated. Very unhappy experience.

The whole staff was wonderful! It was my first visit and I was blown away. The food was delicious. I definitely will be back.

We wish there was still a Northside location, we really like bd's even though it is pricey. There just aren't really great stir fry choices. The building of your own bowl always gives you a chance to try out new combinations. Paying by the bowl gets expensive quickly for kids, since they normally don't have a wide selection of items they approve of.

We went Fri Oct. 3rd, 2014 around 2pm.

The three of us arrived around 2pm. We were one table of maybe 5 in the place. The waiter got to us after 15 minutes of waiting, but he apologized for the wait time. They did seem to have another waiter however, so I am unsure of the holdup.

We all ended up getting the unlimited buffet ($12). The waiter never offered to explain how the restaurant works, although we all had been there before. Like all the other Bd's restaurants, the buffet style ingredients were aplenty, and all looked fresh. The buffet area is a bit crammed, and there is hardly any walking room between the salad bar and the meat section. The spices and sauces table was backed into a corner, and was very very close to the wall. The floor in that corner was very wet, but had no wet floor sign. The wet floor stayed that way, despite bringing it up to employees multiple times.

The cooking station was the same as the other Bd's restaurants, clean and well taken care of. The cooks were very friendly, and keeping a good conversation without taking away from their chef duties.

By the time we got back to our table, (~15 minutes) the waiter had just brought our drinks, and came back a minute or two later with our tortillas and brown rice (both of which are free, despite past reviews). Our food was good, and well cooked.

Overall, It was a 3 star visit. The food was good, but the poor arrangement of the buffet area, the water on the floor not being cleaned up, and the slow waiting staff knocked down this review from a 5 star to a 3.

One bowl for 13 bucks... yeah right. Ate at a lot of mongolian bbq's in other states... it was one price for as many bowls as you wanted...
