Well, the first time I ate there (several years ago now), I had the jambalaya and thought then that it was quite good. In short, I had a pleasant dining experience...and told my wife so.

So, last evening I finally had the opportunity to introduce the Mrs. to the cafe. But, I have to report here that I am just now getting off the toilet - 11am!

I would strongly suggest the kitchen not try to get another day out of the pulled pork-topped mac & cheese! [Doubt it was the water; it was clear, sweet, and regularly replenished (with ice even) by our very good waitress.

However, and in addition, my wife's medium cheeseburger was still bleeding; in fact, I think I saw it trying to crawl across her plate when she looked away once! [She told me she didn't care, cuz she was so hungry. Plus, she doesn't like me complaining about food or service...even if there's a good reason to do so...like this evening.]

So, the music is still great;, but alas, the joint is still sticky...as reported here ha couple of years ago. And I doubt I'll be able to force myself to ever return for the food.

My girlfriend and I recently visited the South Ave. Beale Street cafe. The food and waitress were very good as was the music. The bartender however was an absolute jerk who, when my girlfriend asked to sample one or two of the beers (something any other bar I've been to in this city has done without hesitation) accused her of essentially trying to get drinks from him for free. When his unbelievably rude and childish behavior was pointed out to the owner, he was supported by the owner who lamely tried to justify his employee's actions. I've enjoyed coming to this restaurant in the past, but given this incredibly bad customer service, I doubt I will ever return.
BTW, we are both professional people who had just come from work and were in no way dressed like hobos! But, my girlfriend is black, so maybe... who knows. Very disappointed to be treated like this in any case. Management needs to get a clue on how you treat customers and here it is: first, you don't treat them like crap and second, you don't support the people who treat them like crap.

I had never been to this cafe before, and was looking to try something off the beaten path in Rochester. The restaurant in Webster has great reviews, however my experience here was seriously sub-par. The food was, frankly, bad. The cornbread on two different dishes was wet, cold and very undercooked. We got a half rack of ribs, they were tough, unflavorful and not even remotely comparable to something like dinosaur barbeque. We also tried the shrimp and grits, which was okay however the grits were congealed together and luke-warm by the time we got our food.
I was very disappointed, and will not come here again.
