This place is OK if you like frozen food. Olive Garden would have been better!!!

Ten years ago or so, I remember going to Bella Napoli every time we had a special occasion, and it was fantastic. It was one of the few places you could get a sort of upscale dining experience in El Paso, with all the bells and whistles you'd find in a more traditional large city. I no longer live here in El Paso, though I grew up here.

Bella Napoli is not what it used to be. There's some sort of construction equipment permanently parked in the lot. The exterior and interior are in general disrepair: not terrible, but obviously no longer proactively maintained.

There is a ventilation problem. The entire restaurant smelled like smoke, as if a grill wasn't venting to the outside like it should.

There was a live piano player. He was excellent, but live piano simply does not fit the atmosphere of this place. It would have before, but it does not now.

When we walked in, we were not greeted. The greeter told us to "hold on" while he delivered a check to another table. Then he seated us.

We sat and read the menus for around ten minutes before a server came to take our drink order. "What do you guys want to drink?" was the server's greeting.

We saw our server perhaps five times the entire evening, with around fifteen minutes between each visit. The entire dining experience took around two hours. From being seated to having our entrees served took around an hour and fifteen minutes.

Food was mediocre. I ordered the tortellini formaggio (that's "fromaggio" on the menu). It was overcooked and mushy. The food seems on par with one of those pre-cooked tortellini kits at Albertsons along with a jar of alfredo sauce.

I cannot complain about the price. $40 for three people is reasonable. Perhaps some would prefer to have an adequate dining experience for around $14 per plate, but I was expecting something above and beyond what I got.

The food was excellent, best eggplant parmesan in the city. The staff was nice and the entertainment was fun to watch/listen to.
