This "old school" Fells Point "institution" is famous for its "sweet, huge mussels" served with "out-of-this-world" dipping sauces by "friendly" staffers; other midpriced offerings are just "so-so", and if the decor looks like it "hasn't changed since Millard Fillmore occupied the White House", most call that "character", deeming it a "warm, cheery place" to "hang out", especially Tuesday–Saturday, when the bar has live music.

The mussels are awesome and we'll worth the price, but their entreés are awful. I don't understand where they get off charging people $28 and over for them when Red Lobster serves better seafood. Their Paella is laughable, unless you paid the $27 for it. They need to either bring down the prices for their nasty entreés or stick to only mussels.

Great food, great mussels, great service, good people, very interesting atmosphere. I enjoyed the eclectic collection on the walls and ceiling. Each person at our table had something different and I got to try a little crab cake, some crab soup, and mussels. The crab cakes were much better than most and the quantity and sauces served with the mussels were the best. I found that you can get full on mussels; it was nearly all I ate.
Not sure it is worth reviewing other reviewers but, if you try this place it might cause you to wonder why they said what they said. The only negatives I can see is it is small and oddly shaped/designed/structured. Maybe some of the negative reviewers were claustrophobic, neat-freak, minimalists...lol

Not sure what happened to the portion sizes. About a year ago, my family and I went there and we ordered the Fisherman Salad (shrimp, crab meat, mussels, lettuce, creamy mustard), it was huge and was able to easily feed a family of 5. We ordered it again this weekend and it's a smaller oval dish that barely had any lettuce in it and 4 pieces of shrimp. We loved the taste and all, but were just disappointed from the small portion in comparison. Additionally, the mussels last year were huge, each being about the size of a quarter or bigger. This time they were dime/nickel sized at most, some were large, but only a few and far in between.

All in all, it was OK this time around. I'm sure we'll go there again in the future.

Also their beer selection is good, always go with the local brew. I had their Cask Best Bitter and it was pretty tasty.
