The ambience - When you walk into this place you immediately feel like family. The owners are friendly, hilarious, and make you feel at home. The owner's son was even kind enough to open up the vintage 60s-era jukebox for me (because I'm a huge nerd) and let me have a look at it. The owner's adorable grandsons entertained my 4-year-old son (and us) the entire time we were there, which was just awesome. People who don't like the ambience of this restaurant must not have grown up with a big family - that's the only reason I can fathom for not loving this place instantly.

The food - This is Kansas City style BBQ. It is not Famous Dave's. I mean that as a compliment, for the record. Everything here is homemade and fresh. You must get the fries.... They were just like the ones my mom made when I was growing up. I had the pulled pork sandwich (phenomenal) and my husband had the burnt ends sandwich (even more phenomenal). We literally did not stop to talk until our sandwiches had been devoured. The meat is moist, charred at the tips, and full of smoky flavor. The sauce is classic KC style: slightly sweet, a little peppery, with a ketchup base and thick enough to stay on the meat. I literally doused my sandwich in it.

The service - Our server for most of our meal was the owner's young grandson, who was a better server than some of the adults I've come across here in town. The owners were present throughout our meal, not hovering or bugging, just chatting and seeing how we enjoyed the food. I loved it. I could not have asked for a better experience.

The price - $26 for 2 LOADED sandwiches, a basket of fries, and a kid's full plate of chicken nuggets and fries. Plus drinks. They should charge more. It's that good.

Went at 7pm on Saturday evening. Terrible idea. Why are they even open?
They have no juices, no ribs, no corn, no salad. Plates, silverware, and tables were dirty.
Brisket was cold, dry, and flavorless.
Pulled pork was cold, dry, and flavorless.
Kielbasa was cold, dry, flavorless, and the casings were charred.
I suppose they just expect you to drench the meats with their sauce in order to get any flavor.
Sauce was weak, watery, and nothing more than a dark-colored brine.

Fantastic barbeque, worth the drive up to the northwest area. Tiny place, by the way, but you won't care once you've tasted the food and met the owners. The big guy is a hoot.

Had the prime rib on a bun and a side of sweet potato fries, both were superior to anything else I'd had of their ilk in town. Would definitely recommend. I'll be going back as soon as I get an excuse to head northwest again.
