04/09/2016 3:45 pmA revered "tradition in Minnesota German food", this "friendly" Whittier icon serves its "old-style" fare in "hearty" portions ("dieters beware") to generations of regulars who especially relish dining out on the "to-die-for biergarten" patio, though the "Teutonic" "kitsch" interior also has its fans; there are a few grumbles that it's "fallen from its heyday", but most maintain it's still "fun." |

01/06/2016 8:32 pmMy wife and I just left Black Forest Inn disgusted. We have been here a handful of times, and I have brought friends here for a good German meal. From today on, I will never be going back. We ordered our drinks (a beer for me, and a wine for my wife) and then ordered our food. While waiting for our food, a lady sitting in the booth behind us noticed a mouse scampering on the floor. No big deal I though, just one mouse, he could have gotten in somehow, that happens. So we continue waiting for our food, and then I noticed not one, not two, not three, BUT FOUR mice running around the restaurant! I immediately went up to the bar to pay for our two drinks and leave. The bartender replied with, " well it's a 100 year old building." That may be so, however, you are serving food to people, with a mouse infestation!!! Wouldn't a restaurant that cares about their patrons higher an exterminator and take care of the problem, instead of accrediting it to how old the building is? I used to love this place, but we will never go back, if I want German food, I will go to Gastofs instead. I am very disappointed, but more than that, I am sad that a once beloved restaurant, has turned into that. It even hurts me to write this, but it needed to be said. Sorry Black Forest Inn. :( |

10/04/2015 12:22 amRACIST!!!!!! We walked in the door, two adults and six children, and stated that we had a reservation. Our family is of a shade of brown not common in Germany. The greeter looked us over and said, " I don't know about that. She then tried to put us outside. We stated that we wanted to be inside, so she walked us past all of the empty tables and put us in a corner. The waitress tolerated us, until I asked for a box for our bread, then she actually screamed at me in front of my children and told me, " You know what, no." With the attitude that she had had enough of my family. I asked for a manager and was told there wasn't one. Of course she got no tip after that, so she chased me outside and told me not to ever come back. I didn't know that this type of treatment happened in modern day restaurants inside of the United States. I am definitely cancelling my trip to Germany. |
