Featuring a "classic old-school menu" of "true Cajun cuisine" (e.g. gumbo, jambalaya and crawfish étouffée), this CBD "institution" is a "great place to take out-of-towners or meet a business connection" for a "lively lunch" (dinner is more reserved); top it off with a "warm and happy" staff, and "everything is simply wonderful" at this "old-guard spot that never gets old"; P.S. closed weekends.

My favorite among the many great places I have eaten in New Orleans. All of their crawfish dishes are terrific.

Food was well prepared but unremarkable flavor. The server was young and still learning time management. Her trainer did a good job catching her mistakes.

The reason for 3 stars is because I would not recommend it. I would just not say it is bad when asked.

I stayed in New Orleans for 5 days, had an awesome stay, and ate a TON of awesome food.

STILL, Bon Ton Cafe stands out as best of the group. SO GOOD, in fact, that it was the only place I went to more than once (aside from a coffee house). Both of my experiences were flawless.

First off, the service is exceptional, and you can tell the servers love working there. They are attentive and happy to answer any questions. Seriously, when we asked about dishes, the servers seemed sincerely happy we asked and excited to tell.

First visit: Appetizers- Turtle soup and Crawfish Bisque. Both delicious, but the Turtle soup really pops. Entrees My date got the Crabmeat Imperial which is just amazing. Anyone that's a fan of seafood has probably had a few dishes that, even if they liked, made them think "it would be better if there was more [insert seafood]. This is definitely NOT an issue with the Crabmeat Imperial. probably 85% of a large portion is chunks of crabmeat, cooked perfectly.
-I got the Crabmeat Au Gratin. I will conservatively describe this as a life changing dish that is easily the best thing I've ever eaten. Should I ever be sentenced to Death Row, this is what I want for my last meal. It's so good, I felt like I was doing something wrong. And like the Imperial, It does not want for crabmeat. There are not enough superlatives for this dish. To be clear: this dish was the reason I HAD TO make a second trip here before my trip was over.
The dish was featured on an episode of a show on the Food Network called "The Best Thing I Ever Ate." (See? it's not just me!) Seeing this episode is what originally drew me to the Bon Ton Cafe, so my expectations were already sky high. Astoundingly, this dish blew the roof off of said expectations.

The side dishes were excellent as well: The cheesy cauliflower is notably tasty.

We shared some of their signature Bread Pudding in Whisky Sauce for desert. Wonderful. Get it a la mode.

The second time I only had a salad before the meal but the house dressing is phenomenal.

I got the Crabmeat Au Gratin again, because of course I did. My date got the Crawfish Etouffe and it was great.

At first glance this place appears expensive but for the quality of food alone is strong enough that I would pay more. Furthermore, as I mentioned, they do not skimp on the good stuff. Especially when it comes to the Crabmeat Au Gratin and Imperial, you get every last bit of Crab that you pay for and then some.

The ambiance is nice, but simple (in a good way). There are no frills or distractions. They are unnecessary the food is so good that it would be a waste to distract you from it.

I wish I could give this place seven stars. Just glorious. One of the best places New Orleans has to offer, if not THE best.

This place is AWFUL! THE STAFF WILL SIMPLY NOT ENTERTAIN YOU IF YOU DO NOT BELONG TO "CERTAIN RICH CLASS" i NEVER EVER EXPERIENCE SUCH A BAD TREATMENT EVER.
We went inside the Cafe and almost all seats were vacant and still the staff said "SORRY, NO ROOM" I hate to leave bad remarks but thats how i can make readers aware. If you dont want to be insulted or mistreated NEVER EVEN PASS BY!
