This is an easy place to socialize and the food gives you plenty to talk about. I was told the mussels were the speciality of the house. The thing is, I do t even like mussels all the much, but this place has changed my outlook completely.

If you become ill after eating here is YOUR FAULT says the General Manager. A friend of mine and I tried this place a few weeks back. I ordered a croque madame which is a kind of hot ham and cheese sandwich; my friend ordered a salad. I shared half of my croque madame with my friend. Later that night we both became violently ill with vomiting and severe diarrhea causing us each to miss a day of work the following day.

I called the restaurant the following day and spoke to the General Manager and explained what had happened. "I am not taking the blame for this" he said immediately at the outset, and then took my number and said he would call me back after speaking to the chef. When he called back, he explained that he had checked all of the ingredients from the night before and everything seemed fine. The sandwich must have been "too rich" for both of us since they had not received any other complaints from diners. "Well," I said, " you just received a report of TWO cases of food poisoning symptoms from TWO diners who shared the same dish, apparently this complaint doesn't count ?" I observed. The GM steadfastly refused to concede anything, and offered absolutely nothing other than saying he was sorry the food had been "too rich" for us.

And so I have to ask, if people eat at a restaurant and get violently ill as a result, who is to blame. The GM of Brasserie Beck categorically refused, and so I guess it then has to be the diner's fault for eating there.

Love this place! There's a lovely patio for warmer months and a chic bistro feel if you prefer inside. Staff is helpful and knowledgeable. The beer menu is unbelievable! The mussels were cooked perfectly and you can't go wrong with the various broth options. The steak tartare needed a little seasoning but was still delish. A great alternative to the pricey sister restaurant in Foggy Bottom, Marcel's. #DC #Restaurant #Belgian

Even after moving to DC, I occasionally check my paypal app to see if there are any offers in the area. And it just happened, Brasserie Beck was offering $10 credit one week. I decided to save the credit and tried a few side dishes- Brussels sprouts, mac & cheese, and beets.

Brussels sprouts cooked with poached pear and bacon bits - savory and sweet all in one dish - loved it so much, I went back the following day just to get this dish!

Mac & cheese au gratin - Cheesy goodness, great size to be shared over happy hours especially!

Beets - this dish however was underwhelming - strange, sour taste and tiny portion. I love beets but this dish convinced me otherwise.

Although I only had a chance to interact with the staffs at the bar, I was impressed by their attentive, friendly service and professionalism. After learning that a staff had forgotten to charge me for a dish, I immediately returned the next day to pay. The staff instead was apologetic and told me not to worry about it.

Overall, can't wait to return for their mouthwatering Brussels sprouts and to try their signature mussels!

Awesome mussels, sensational frites and an exhaustive beer list are the drawing cards at this Belgian chainlet that's a must for folks with hearty appetites; although what's fun and lively to some is loud and crowded to others, most agree on the welcoming service; P.S. the Gaithersburg outlet opened post-Survey.
