Neglectful service from indignant servers, mediocre food that managed to have several strands of hair embedded within in spite of its obvious journey from a freezer through a microwave.

The woman behind the counter was so immediately hostile, I thought I'd misunderstood her. My kids and I walked out (without purchasing), compared notes, and ended up having a good laugh about it. But I certainly won't be returning there under any circumstances.

I just moved to Chevy Chase from the UK a month ago - yes, in the middle of January. So finally today I got to walk about and lo and behold a European bakery. It was fantastic!! I had the smoked salmon plate - wonderful!! I ordered the chocolate dipped macaroons to go - heaven!! I'll be back for sure. Can't wait to try more.....

This place was not for me. I ordered a Black Forest Ham & Gruyere Pfannkuchen and a hot mocha. The mocha came out room temperature at best AND was probably in a cub the size of my head. Normally, I would be okay with the size because coffee is blood fuel, but the mocha was terrible and tasted like an instant coffee mix. So, I had a giant, gross coffee. I thought the Black Forest Ham & Gruyere Pfannkuchen (basically a pancake/crepe type thing) would redeem the restaurant, but it was terrible. It clearly sat out to become cold before being served to me. I wish I could erase this place from my memories.

Of all the breakfast places in DC, Bread and Chocolate is where I can go with my wife and have a really good breakfast that hasn't been changed or played up to sound unique like so many other DC restaurants. I can order eggs benedict, and guess what, what comes out is really good eggs benedict. Revolutionary! My wife repeatedly goes back for the French toast. They have really good coffee and espresso drinks, and pastries.
