Where do I start, this place was phenomenal from the moment we walked in we were greeted, the Service and food was great. This place is a must for steak lovers, I didn't have to put anything on my Med rare steak, more than exceptional. Great dining experience

When you have a choice between a baked potatoe and the chips, go with the chips! The chips alone were 5 stars. Walleye was OK. .. steak was good, not amazing. Relish tray and bread was a plus! Overall, a tad pricey. A very eclectic mix of service- our party of five had four servers. It's a new experience to have the specials menu recited in Slovakian elegance. Then, the contrast of flamboyant enthusiasm. At checkout, don't expect the usual modern commodities. Checks are handwritten, no computer computations. Split the check on your own. Keep an item mind, it's worth the experience.

I'm sorry Butch but you need some help. I will start off by saying the food was a little better than expected but after sitting at my table for 5 minutes and getting a quick look around my expectation dropped from reading the reviews I read here.

After my first 5 minutes of looking around I only saw a few classic slot machines (not like what other reviewers have stated) and saw a lot more classic grandfather clocks and other types of classic clocks among a lot of late 70's antiques. My grandmother would love this place. The carpet is old and stained from traffic and a lot of little things not taken care that if they were they could make big differences in the ambiance of the restaurant. The website talks of an open kitchen that customers can tour while there but I would not suggest it unless you would like to have an accident probably from slipping on grease or something else that might be on the floor (you could sue and make a lot of money). I also really doubt that they empty their grease vats regularly, by the time I left I not only smelled the grease but noticed the smell on my clothes. I then really started to think that this restaurant would be perfect for the TV show Restaurant Impossible. I understand the classic feel and it IS very interesting but I am guessing if the restaurant is making money the owner is pocketing it for wherever he is retired at or just doesn't understand there is a time to renovate.

With that said I looked at the menu and was quite shocked by the prices of the meals ($38 for a 20oz. rib eye). I could understand that at a well updated restaurant but wasn't expecting that here. So now my expectations are back up. They also like to promote their Steer Filet which are priced in the upper 40's. I was very pleased by the accompaniments of veggie plate and bread (fresh made and good). Upon receiving my 20oz. Rib Eye I got very happy, the steak was huge, however the baked potato not so much.

Then I dug in and unfortunately my earlier thought of the price being too high was correct. The potato was not cooked all the way through but I still ate as much as I could. Next the steak, cooked medium rare (i love blood and fat) was very juicy and very bloody however the steak was pretty plain. I'm sure the restaurant doesn't have room to age their steaks but they do need to learn to either marinade or season the steaks. I ended up putting a little salt and pepper from the table on it. I will give the cook credit because the steak was cooked the way I love it, it is just too bad the flavor was lacking.

As for the servers my server was very nice however after watching the other servers there was a common normality of slowness. It appeared most servers were over 45 if not 55. The one thing that did upset me with my server was how nice I was to her (which she was nice too) but everytime I said "thank you" for just everything she did for me she never really acknowledged that with a "you're welcome".

In general I would say if you want an okay steak and do not feel like dressing up and you would also like to see a lot of antiques, stop in, it would be worth it. However if you are just in one of the moods where you want a delicious steak (even at a middle of the road type of place) look elsewhere.

I'm sorry Butch, but you do need to update your restaurant if only it is to take care of the smaller things. The small things can make big differences.

Sincerely,
Pleased but a little upset and sad.

Fantastic experience! The atmosphere was very unique and had a fun old casino decor. Walking in felt like we were entering into an entirely different atmosphere. Our server was very knowledgeable and we ordered his suggestion of the 6 oz steer filet and Giant Shrimp Scampi as well as a 20 oz rib eye to share between the two of us. The steer filet was so tender it just literally melted in your mouth. Both cuts of meat were cooked perfectly... but the shrimp were outright amazing. There were 5 shrimp and each was about 4 oz. I've never seen shrimp as big and flavorful as this. We didn't have any room for desert, but noticed a few other tables with some that looked amazing as well. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a great experience!
