What's happened to Café Med?
We've been going to Cafe med since it was located on the other side of town. We moved from Bakersfield several years ago and were recently in town to visit our son and his family. My favorite dish? Kleftiko. So we went there for a family meal as we had done so many times in the past.
The place wasn't very busy at 6PM, and the service was slow. The waiter did not understand the menu and had to go back to the kitchen several times to answer our questions. No problem there.... the guy was new on the job. He then forgot our drinks, delivered an appetizer (still no drinks), and we asked several times from both the waiter and bus-boy. Dinner arrived, 2 of the 4 items ordered were not as requested, the Kleftiko was awful (too much pepper) and still no drinks! Finally the drinks arrived. All this time the floor manager and bus-boys standing around doing essentially nothing.
We were pretty disappointed and doubt we will return. We paid the $159 bill, and left.

We used to love this place. We loved their ribeye steak and pasta. It has been several times that we came here disappointed. Last night would be our last. The carbonara that we ordered - it was barely touched and we did not even consider bringing it home.

Was there last night to celebrate my birthday and have dinner, we ended up leaving because the bartender would not stop talking about her spin cycle classes and all her workout routine. I heard her tell that same story to at least three other people, beginning to end. I would have to ask my wife to repeat herself over the bartenders loud conversation. That is why she got a $1.00 tip!

When I visit my mother for Mother's Day, her request is always to come here for their big Mother's Day brunch special. So we visit, it's nice and then we leave.

I like what they're trying to do here -- Bakersfield deserves a nice, fancier place to eat. However, they're also trying a little too hard. Tone down the stuffiness a tad and it'll probably kick the rating up to four stars for me.

Oh, the food is kinda like the service -- they're tying a little too hard and not quite making it. Sure, I'm judging a little harsh, but if you're going to pass yourself off as a fancy place, I'm going to judge accordingly.

You probably won't be sad going here, but there's a chance you might not feel fully comfortable.

Terrible!!! Worst food I've had at a restaurant. The service was ok.

Let me start from the beginning: When we walked in the door we were greeted nicely by the hostess. However, the older gentlemen server behind her was loudly boasting about his $80 tip and was hoping for a $50 tip from his other customer.

We were seated and the bread was fine, the wine was sub-par, and the food was garbage! My "meal" was over salted and drowned in oil. I have pictures if you want to see it. The food was not worth the price we paid, and would have rather thrown it into the street. I only brought the food home with me to give to my dog, but decided against it and threw it away.

This place would be great if you only want to sit at the bar and pay for overpriced appetizers.
