Great, authentic Russian food. Large portions, plentiful sides, great friendly counter service. Ambiance leaves a little to be desired but cheap and fast is worth it. Great borscht and cabbage rolls.

Cafe Yarmarka USED TO BE my favorite place to eat in the Pike Place Market!!! BUT the business is under new ownership, now the same as PIROSHKY, PIROSHKY and long gone are the days of cooking from scratch, a daily rotating soup menu, and those wonderful PIEROGIES AND PELMENI that used to be hand made as you watched/ate...

NOW, their authentic piroshkys have been done away with so as to not "compete" with the other business (that, in 4 years, I've never known another RUSSIAN to actually eat at...), soups are too salty and taste like they've come from a can. Pierogies and pelmeni are now ordered frozen, from who knows where, filled with who knows WHAT... and they taste like they're wrapped in rubber, not the familiar, love & care infused pastry dough of days gone by.

The new owner came in singing promises of "making everything better" days after taking over the business... and now, none of the regulars that kept Yarmarka special can stand to return... Rosa, you had a GREAT thing going and we MISS YOU!!! The only thing that's better about Yarmarka now, is your chance of finding an empty seat.

When we arrived a young man was making pelmeni by folding dough around dabs of meat fillings and carefully crimping the edges with his fingers. The owner took our orders.

We ordered the Beef & Cabbage piroski and the Beef, Potato & Mushroom piroski as well as sides of Potato salad and Cucumber Salad. The potato salad was a perfectly seasoned exquisite dish quite capable of standing alone. The cucumbers were crisp and matched with fresh dill, firm tomatoes and a creamy dressings. The piroski were both flaky, tender and reminiscent of a home-cooked meal, not a touristy marketplace.

For dessert, we munched delicately sweet lavender cookies. We sighed contently, lamented the end of our meal and planned our return.

The prices were reasonable for the amount of food received. 8oz of salad - $4; single piroski started at $3.75, but were filling when coupled with the salad. They also offered at least ten combos for easy ordering.
