07/09/2014 12:56 pm![]() After living in San Francisco for many years and traveling throughout LA and the rest of the state for work over the years, I am a huge fan of authentic CA-style Mexican food. Like most Mexican sit-down restaurants in NYC, Calexico is slicker than the divey taquerias I love in CA but the food definitely hits the spot. I find myself craving it about once a week and am so happy it came to the neighborhood after going out of my way to visit the truck in Manhattan. Only complaint is the feeling that they are a little out of sync with neighborhood. Park Slope is teeming with young families and particularly during the quiet weekdays, the "free stroller parking**not responsible for lost or stolen property" sign on the sidewalk chafes a bit. I've actually been offered a table in the back where I can use the stroller since my infant son is still a little wobbly for a highchair, which is greatly appreciated. But I would prefer to feel 100% welcome to come in with my stroller and have it safely stored or roll it up to an out of the way table if he's sleeping, etc. |

06/20/2015 4:21 am![]() Mexican mavens "all abuzz" over these "rough-and-ready" street-cart spin-offs call out their "outstanding", "Cali-inspired" tacos, tortas and burritos; "fabulous prices" and "fast service" offset the "simple" "hole-in-the-wall" settings; P.S. "make sure to get the ‘crack' sauce on anything you order." |
