08/12/2015 9:18 pmThe Caravan is a classic Country Western Honky-tonk. Places like this are closing around the country because a lot of local communities aren't supporting this type of venue and a lot of people nowadays, like to go to Casino's and throw all their money down the toilet. What you get at the Caravan is good Country Music, cold beer, billiards, grilled green chile cheeseburgers, good dancing and friendly people, the music is both recorded and live as of August 2015. Saturday night is unique because two cultures are blended in that Spanish Language music and New Mexico regional music is played together with Classic Country. Bands on Saturday night either play both genre's or two bands are booked. Cover charges range from $5 to $10, or more for special events. Dancing is one of the most popular activities, and you can see people doing the Two Step, Waltz, Polka, Triple Two, 4 Count Swing, West Coast Swing, East Coast Swing, Night Club Two Step, Hustle, Bachata, Cumbia, Cha Cha, Salsa, Merengue, and Freestyle. Ninety percent of the time it's Country Two Step to Classic Country Music. The best dancers show up on Friday night, Tuesday is Ladies Night(you can expect a big crowd after 8), Saturday is multicultural, with both Country music and Spanish Language music played, and, it is the busiest night out of the three nights they're open. This place is great because it has a large hardwood dance floor, great parking lot security, a sincere owner, a great Manager/DJ (AL is his name and he takes requests), great Classic Country bands, great Hispanic bands, and nice people who patronize the place. Albuquerque is very culturally diverse, so the demographics of the patrons are mostly middle aged baby boomers who are Hispanic Americans, Caucasian Americans, Native Americans, and African Americans. I love this place because it reminds me of a time in the United States when life was simpler and a middle class couple could go somewhere to hear good music, dance, and relax from the struggle of making a living. |
