My husband and I normally enjoy frequenting the Ale house in Durham, NC off of 15-501 Chapel Hill Blvd...until tonight! A managers little girl, probably about 8-10 was walking around the restaurant bussing (including beer glasses) tables and handing out checks. She continued to go in and out of the slippery kitchen barely missing the busy wait staff. My husband and I were horrified and when we asked the bartender she shrugged it off like it was no big deal. This is not only against child safety laws but it puts the restaurant in jeopardy. I dont think we will ever return which is too bad because it was one of our top places when picking a dinner/late night place to hangout.

Haha; If it weren't so terrible, it'd be comedic. Sat for over a quarter hour; not a single person acknowledged this guest's existence. Hardly busy, couldn't see a reason for the dereliction. At least the greeter glanced up from her phone momentarily!

This place is the absolute Worst! The Food sucks and the cook was eating and cooking at the same time. The waiter introduced himself as "G" as in Gangster! I thought that was pretty unprofessional for an establishment of such. The food came too quick to be true, As if it was already sitting in the back . When I got the food I immediately realized that it wasn't hot or fresh. "G' never once came to check on us so after 10-15 minutes went by we finally located "G" across the room. I explained to him that I wasn't satisfied with the food and "G" assured me that the cook would make me another meal no problem. After waiting so long and "G" hadn't checked on us, I located him once again and told him we were done here, and to have the food boxed to go. I was surprised to see a 20% tip built in to my bill with such poor service!!!! To top the nights bad experience off, I got home to see the same food that I sent back to the kitchen by "G" in the box, The same steak that I cut and tasted. These people are the worst!!!! I will never eat here again!!!! And because of the area and the violence in the past at this establishment its not very wise for a waiter to introduce himself as "G" and by the way at the end of the night when I finally got my bill was when I found out that "G" was really Gerald H. Is "G" short for Gerald? or Gangster?

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. So I was checking out the menu online and it sounded pretty good. On Sunday we (my husband, his sister and husband with their son and I) decided to try it out. Big mistake!! First when we came in it was very crowded so we were seated in the patio area which was fine. No one ever came to bring us the menu or ask for drinks! We waited literally for almost 20 minutes !!! My husband had to call the waitress and ask to bring the menu. She didn't speak to him or any of us. She then just brought the menus. Didn't ask for drinks or anything. Just left. We noticed that 2 other parties had been given the menu and their drinks before us and we had arrived way before them. So we got up and left. While still outside at the parking lot i called to speak to a manager but was told they were too busy and would not answer the phone. The girl said if she bothered them she would get in trouble!? She promised me they would return the call by the end of the night.. Big Lie!! Till today I have not heard anything. We all felt discriminated by them being the only Hispanics in the restaurant!!!! That was the first time ever going there and will be the last. Terrible service!

Dear waitress that is a thief,
I hope that you enjoyed your 32 dollars. Was it really worth it? Being a dishonest person is not good, you know? Don't continue to steal from your customers, one of them WILL get you eventually.

Needless to say, I will never step foot back in this location. I went here as a couple with another couple. So there were four of us. When it came time to pay there was a lot of sketchy things going on. The other couple put down 35 dollars in cash to cover their bill, we put down one of my credit cards. She came back to me and said they don't take those types of cards. (It was a visa, pretty standard if you ask me.) So, since she'd already taken entirely too long to do everything else, in an effort to speed things up, I gave her another credit and debit card. BIG MISTAKE. She comes back, says it took on the other credit card, hands me both cards and the ticket to sign and then leaves. The other couple mentioned they never got their change, but assumed that she assumed it was her tip. And stupidly, I didn't bring home my receipt.

2 days later I look at my banking statements. The correct charge for us is on the credit card. I check my debit card and there is another transaction, totaling exactly what the other couple's ticket was. So I called the girl that was with us just to revisit everything that happened. We remember that she never bought them their change and the deal with the cards. Only to realize that she actually had the nerve to put their tab on my card and pocket the money herself. Now yes, we were not at the register, but that alone is weird enough to know what happened, plus she was not that friendly and really didn't act like she wanted to be there. I work with the public, it doesn't matter how much you don't want to be there, you smack a happy face on and make them believe all you want at that moment is to be there and make them happy.

So I've spent the last 2 months in a dispute with my bank about this. I tried talking to the store, but they somehow could not find our transactions, so rather than calling back and doing a million different things, my banker just told me to go through the bank to dispute it. I just got the letter telling me they don't have enough proof to reimburse me. So, thus leading to an angry customer coming on here to warn everyone....DO NOT TRUST THIS ESTABLISHMENT! There were some friendly faces, but just this one person that stole from us is enough to ruin us from ever going back. Stay honest people. Stealing is wrong.
