Based on the reviews we tempered our expectations, but were pleasantly surprised. The service was cheery, prompt and helpful. One waitress was quizzed by patrons on "things to do in Milwaukee" and listed things as expertly as a Chamber of Commerce employee. The menu had an array of interesting selections and our choices arrived quickly, well prepared and well presented. No dirty dishes in sight. My chicken quesadillas was perfect. I can recommend the bread pudding too, and I fancy myself a bread pudding snob. The fish was a bit overcooked, but that is more preference than a short coming of the restaurant. The decor is a little bland and dated, but who cares? Our server answered our meal questions, made suggestions and was spot on. I want good food for a good price, served well, and Chancery was better than adequate...they were really good.

My boyfriend and I decided to try out the Chancery restaurant on south 27th st. We walked in, we were greeted by the host and seated on the lower level. At first we didn't think much of it, but as we ordered our food and waited, more people came in. We noticed that people who were here before us and after us were seated on the upper level. We were the only two people on the lower level. The waitress seemed uncomfortable, but because it's her job, she still served us. When we saw that they were setting up tables on the lower level, my boyfriend asked the waitress to see if they were having a party. She said yes, at 7pm. My boyfriend also asked the host to see why he seated us on the lower level, but everyone else on the upper level. The host stuttered saying Ohs and ums, then gave us an excuse that the booths weren't ready. However, they didn't go up to clean or do anything to the tables and seated other people, who arrived after us, at those booths. We felt uncomfortable, unfairly treated and did not enjoy our time there. Even though we didn't enjoy our first time there, we still tipped the waitress almost half of our bill as a courtesy. If that is the kind of service and treatment that the restaurant offers, then no thank you! We won't come back! I wish I could give it no star!

Eat lunch there twice a week for many years and the people are very friendly, the menu has excellent variety, the food has great appearance, tastes good and is served very promptly. Normally eat at the bar and the Bartender is excellent. Would highly recommend for lunch--have not eaten other meals there but would assume that the same service and food carries over to dinner also.

Hadn't been here for a few years, but not nearly as good as I remember. Slow service, warm beer, dirty plate. Not coming back any time soon.
