An iconic, decades-spanning South End sandwich shop reopens under the new ownership of Evan Deluty, chef at the glossier nearby eatery Stella, but all else remains the same: from the lovingly worn, neighborhood diner–style interior to the simple but memorable breakfast fare (lunch is coming soon) that includes a signature turkey hash.

I just heard the news that they are closing at the end of June. I have been going there for breakfast off and on for years. I am very sad and surprise to hear that they are closing. The only thing I can say is that you will be truly missed because the people there and are great. Charlie's Sandwich Shoppe is a legend and they have the picture to prove it.

This is my "no nonsense" breakfast joint. I sit at the bar with the paper, mind my own business and enjoy an endless cup of coffee while overhearing the comings and goings of the South End. I'd give it 5 stars, but I feel like I need a shower after stepping out onto Columbus Avenue.

I lived around the corner from Charlie's for years and cannot rave enough! Amazing local charm. fabulous Diner style food, and an ambiance that is true to the flavor of Boston! Arthur always greeted me with a smile as did the whole staff! Great local spot..true hidden gem! This is a place I will always return to and always recommend! Not too miss! Put it on your Boston Bucket List!!!!

Charlie's Sandwich Shoppe is a legend in its own considerable lifetime. A fixture of Boston's South End, it's been in the hands of the Manjourides family since it opened in 1927. It's the place to go in Boston for breakfast if you love good, old-fashioned diner food, and mountains of it!

My usual favourite is two eggs, poached, on wheat toast with home fries and a single griddle cake on the side, smothered in maple syrup of course. It's a great place for people-watching and my favourite spot is at the back on one of the 1930s bar stools. If you want a slightly quieter life, then pick one of the four tables opposite the counter, but really, the counter is the place to be.

Entering the Charlie's was one of the worst restaurant expreiances ever. The owners act as if they were the Bostonian celebreties. At the entrance they perform as the homland security not the restaurant owners.
