One of the things I liked best about our most recent trip to the Chart House was how personalized it was. They had read the notes I included with my open table reservation, and congratulated us on our anniversary we arrived. They also had provided the window table I had requested and had a hand written card on the table. The menu's also had a happy anniversary message with our names on them. Anthony, our server, was excellent. And of ‘course the food and the views were amazing, like always

We have been here many times. My husband and I decided to have our Valentines Dinner there and were really excited because every time we've been there it has always been a great experience. Not this time (and you would think it would be even better for Valentines day). We were sat at the tiniest table (we almost walked out but decided to make the best of it) and was so close to all the other tables, you could practically touch the other guest there and it felt like they were herding cattle. Not to mention it was extremely hot in there. The food was just as bad... the salad was warm, steak was very dry, shrimp scampi was very chewy and even the lava cake wasn't that hot. We use to love Chart House but we are planning on not ever returning. They did not make our Valentines Day "special" by any means. Very disappointed.

THE VALET BROKE MY CAR WINDOW!

After being told to give them a call tomorrow and "don't worry, we will take care of this. We are so sorry"

THEY DECIDED TO NOT PAY TO FIX IT!!

So needless to say I will never return, and neither will my party of 14 people I brought that evening that witnessed it.

Thanksgiving fiasco. Had to get reservations before noon. Not one vegetarian dish available. They said they have to go off menu and make pasta. Came back and said pasta was out. At 11:30 am? Portland 2015, expensive, and not one choice for vegetarians. Jesus. Weak. AND the steak was inedible, chewy for one of our party. Never returning.

No problem making a last-minute reservation. Friendly valet service and front-desk people. Were shown to a raised-tier table overlooking the river--lovely view. Greeted quickly by our server. We each had a glass of wine, house pinot and house zin, both quite satisfactory.

It was a bit slow getting our appetizer, soup and entrees. The appetizer was wonderful (kimchee calamari). Clam chowder was so-so; have had better on the coast. They were out of lobster bisque. We ordered brown-butter mahi mahi with brussel sprouts and a shrimp plate with three different kinds of shimp with a scoop of ginger rice.

The mahi mahi was cooked perfectly--just the right tenderness without being mushy. The brussel sprouts were an advertisement for people who don't like brussel sprouts to try them--was absolutely spectacular. However, someone had gotten a little too enthusiastic with the butter. It would have been better with half that much. The entree with three different types of shrimp included coconut-battered shrimp (excellent), as well as grilled on a cedar plank and covered with corn salsa (also quite good) and shrimp stuffed with crab stuffing (not something I'm personally fond of, but the shrimp were very good). Three dipping sauces came with the shrimp--coconut, sweet chili and teriyaki/soy sauce. I never did get to the ginger rice--I was full.

To complete our supper, we had espresso and marionberry sorbet. The espresso was weak, closer to coffee than strong, traditional espresso, and not steaming hot. Sorbet was very sweet. I should emphasize that we had a great time, the server was excellent at explaining the dishes and menu options, and was wonderful at making sure we had everything we needed. She could only serve the food as quickly as the kitchen can prepare it, so it's not her fault the food didn't arrive a little more timely.

All in all, good experience, and we'd go back.
