Extremely mediocre Chinese buffet.
You can do better.

None of the food was kept at a proper temperature and it was also not very tasty. Server was nice.

Our latest "go-to" for a buffet with an unbeatable variety of Chinese fare on a tight budget-- New Hunan!

PRICE: Dinner is right at $10 and (the less familiar to me) lunch is even less! New Hunan is not pretentious or fancy in any way or BY ANY STRETCH-- decor to food quality to service. Still, it is very good. The variety of selections is impressively extensive and the good quality of many of the available choices is the appeal!

That said, we have previously always visited during dinner until our most recent visit... Toward the end of lunch and beginning of dinner, there were slightly fewer choices. I think the time was around 3:30, so... Understandably, some items were not as fresh even though the staff was obviously in the process of steadily restocking for the dinner buffet. Although we inadvertently saved a few dollars, I think the dinner hours may offer the best value and be worth the difference in price for those looking for a dining out treat for the low-budget family.

FOOD: There are even some slightly healthier choices like stir-fried green beans and really good and spicy cauliflower. TRY THE CAULIFLOWER. Still, on our most recent, unplanned lunch-time visit, the cheesy imitation-lobster casserole choice was just so dang tasty that two of our party guiltily fought over the remaining second helpings. I loved it and admit that I was the second guilty contestant. To ease our conscience, my contesting partner noted the veggies that were artfully blended into the saucy delight. The cheesy lobster-seafood concoction was very good.

Too, always, we love the soft-serve ice cream dessert to top off the whole treat-- chocolate, vanilla, or a swirl of both in a cone. Test your soft-serve cone filling skills here-- It's just plain fun!

SERVICE: Although the servers have been very friendly on each of our visits, they may not be considered especially chatty, possibly due to a possible language barrier and/or that there seem to be an abundance of "regulars" whom do not require or expect much verbal exchange...

The unobtrusive ice cream machine may be easily overlooked. It is to your immediate left when entering the buffet area from your table. Also, it may be helpful to know the location of all your other available options. Condiments like hot mustard and fresh chopped green onion are also tucked in the corner on your right when exiting the buffet area and may be easily overlooked. Likewise, extra napkins and disposable chopsticks are hidden away in plain sight on the partition between the multiple mini-buffets and the seating area.

SUMMARY: Great, first-choice for an eating-out treat for the budget-conscious. Others, in-the-know will be more than satisfied with their meal (and dining experience). Bottom line, New Hunan is NOT for those looking for glitz or unnecessary repertoire with servers or management. It's kinda an In-thing.

Worst Chinese in Memphis. Disgusting. Worst I've ever had. Was unable to even eat the "meat". This place was gross. I almost got sick. Waitress and manager are very rude. Told waitress the food was bad and I couldn't eat it. She laughed like I made a joke. So I called her back and asked if there was something funny about the food being horrible. The manager tried to stand up for his nasty food by pointing out about three couples in the restaurant somehow devouring the filthy food. I explained to him that that was none of my concern if the rest of the customers were satisfied or not. Imagine this to be like that buffet on national lampoon Vegas. Shame on yall. Shame.

Honestly it is one of the best Chinese buffets in Memphis. Its not fancy and the service is descent. Food is good though. Much better than Pacific fusion.
