All of these rave reviews have to be seeded. There is just no way these people actually ate there. I have been there at least 4 times, if not more, over the past few years because of gift certificates and other things, and each and every experience has been consistently underwhelming, and at times just plain disgusting.

One time I ordered the Salmon - it was literally one of the worst things I have ever eaten. I am not that picky, and I do not like being rude to the waitstaff or complaining. It tasted so disgusting, like the fish was rancid, that I had to send it back.

Another visit, I ordered crab cakes. If you want real crab cakes, I would suggest Ruth's Chris. These are deep-fried, breaded, excuses called "crab cakes." They are not fresh and I would bet anything they came frozen from a box.

Yet another recent visit, myself and my boyfriend took another couple there. I suggested to everyone that they stay away from the seafood and order something that they "couldn't possibly mess up" - like a simple pasta dish. I was wrong!

The food is SO bland, flavorless, and the portions are much too large. I ordered the Eggplant Parmesan - out of everything everyone ordered, that was the best - but that is not saying much. A ton of pasta, bland tomato sauce, deep-fried eggplant (that I am convinced also came frozen from a box, based on the consistency of size and the type of breading), some mozz cheese. I had to add salt and pepper, which I rarely do. My boyfriend got Ravioli Alfredo - extremely bland. He was starving so he ate it anyway. The couple ordered Pesto Pasta - I never thought pesto could taste bland, but somehow it did here - and Fettucine Alfredo - also tasteless and bland. Not to mention we had to wait 20 minutes for bread and another 45 minutes or more for our meal.

Do yourself a favor and try any of the other fabulous Italian restaurants Madison has to offer - Lombardino's is a local favorite. Tutto Pasta on State St. is also much better.

I have had lunch here about 5 times and they just recently started serving lunch - it's fantastic! I highly recommend it!

Great lunch wait staff too - nice job Jim! Thanks!

I visit The Continental Fitchburg on a regular basis. The food is great -- they have the best lasagna I've had in a long time. The BBQ chicken pizza is also a must have. If you feel like something "lighter," I suggest the Milano Sandwich.

I also enjoy the fact that you can get homemade sweet potato chips as an appetizer or side dish.

Jim (owner) is a great guy who is always coming by to make sure you're taken care of and that you enjoyed your dinner. He even served us after dinner drinks on the house one evening.

I highly recommend The Continental Fitchburg. It's a great place for a date.

My wife an I went for a valentines dinner on Friday night and we figured it would be busy so we called ahead for a reservation. We had to wait 10 minutes part our reservation time. Not a big deal, but when we walked through the restaurant there was empty tables. We sat down and our server was right there. Then we had to wait another 20 mins to see her again with out drinks. Then it was another 10 mins to order our food. And we waited easily an hour to get our food. The whole time my drink was empty, she never noticed nor asked if we wanted more. The whole wait for the food excruciating especially when your server never comes withing eye sight of your table. Was she making the dinner? Our reservation was for 6:30 and we left at 8:45 and I and my wife are fast eaters! Anyway the only reason we went is because we got a $50 gift certificate as a gift from a friend. We ordered the Valentines Day specials and of course after all the crappy service they topped it. Gift Certificates aren't valid for specials. So they took all the food we wouldn't have normally ordered (salad and desert and the main dish for that matter. $29 for a 10oz tenderloin?) and added it in separately. So what we thought was going to be a $25/person meal turned into a $38/person meal. Adding $26 to our total bill. So basically we got $24 off with our $50 gift card. How awesome of them. The food was the only thing that saved the dinner because it was good. But after all that: Never going back. Not suggesting to our friends.
