"As good as it gets this side of Pisa", this "old-school" and "upscale Little Italy jewel" has long been known for its "outstanding" "classic" dishes like the "don't-miss" veal chop; "pricey", sì, but it's "worth every penny" to its "well-heeled" clientele, especially those impressed by a display of celebrity photos, a live piano player and a parking lot.

We went on a date night last night. After trying to find parking in Little Italy, we gave up and parked in the Da Mimmo parking lot, therefore committing to eat there. The prices are very high, but the service was attentive. I ordered Penne Putanesca and my husband ordered the Eggplant parmesan. The food was good, but I've had better at lower end, less expensive Italian restaurants. Putanesca sauce is quite rich because it usually includes tomatoes, kalamata olives, capers and anchovies. The sauce on my penne last night included very small pieces of olive, but I did not see or taste capers and anchovies. My husband said that his Eggplant Parmesan was good, but nothing special. The people at the table behind us were extremely loud, so we had our leftovers boxed and left earlier than we would have normally. If you want to spend a lot of money on slightly above average tasting Italian food, Da Mimmo is the place to go.

If I could I would give this place negative stars.I was just looking to see if this place was still in business. I am suprised it is.

We flew in for a business meeting and had made reservations for dinner. Unfortunately, when we got to the hotel my wife and I were tired and fell asleep missing our reservation.Upon waking I called and apologized for missing our reservation and asked if they could seat us. I was told to come over now.We did. Once seated, no one ever came to our table even though it was not very full. After about 20 minute's I asked what was the reason for not being served. I was told since we did not show for our reservation they had no intention of serving us. As we left the owner or head waiter yelled at us and told us to not come back.
I found it interesting that others had experienced similar insane treatment.
Avoid this place at all costs.

I'm walking with my wife and son looking for dinner, it suddenly starts to rain and I make a dash for Da Mimmo. They sit us, and I ask the waiter if the place serves pizza. The condescending jerk tells me that it's a fine dining place, and that I should read the menu before going in, and wanders off mumbling. I would've stayed if he had acted professionally and entice me to try one of its specialties. Anyhow, went across the street and had a blast at Chaipparellis.

Service was so bad it was comical... Our tab for 4 people was $180 and we ended up leaving a personal note instead of a tip (first time I've done that) as the service was amazingly bad (not just "inattentive": the waiter was an outright intentional jerk for no reason).

Don't fall for the "free parking for Da Mimmo customers" gated parking lot kitty-corner to the restaurant... That's an asphalt "Siren's Song" to a horrible dining experience.

This place is overpriced even for a Little Italy tacky tourist trap. Especially the unpriced "specials" the waiter rattles off during the ordering process. Luckily I did ask the price of a special (the waiter was like "wow, that's uncouth" -- really?) and was able to pass on it after he "went back to the kitchen" (Seriously?!?) to find out the special's $49 price.

I ended up with $20 Fettucine Alfredo, AKA "a bowl of noodle cheese soup" -- not that it was particularly bad -- but I was hoping for something better than Olive Garden catering. No big deal -- if the service had been good I wouldn't have noticed the quality of the food.

The fun really started when we didn't order the garlic bread with our entrees... It was a strangely "hard sell" in retrospect. We found out when our salads and appetizers arrived that, if you don't order the garlic bread, it is "no bread for you!"

We questioned this policy with the waiter -- we didn't want garlic bread, we wanted italian bread. The waiter relented (with the attitude of a car salesman failing to sell the "undercoating" package), and 4 small slices of Italian bread were brought to a table of 4 people (oddly enough, with a full stick of butter!).

We were halfway through our entrees when we asked for more bread (after all, I needed something to soak up all that cheese broth!), the waiter brusquely stated we had been cut off from the carbs unless we wanted to order the Garlic Bread.

Seriously? The margin on a $45/seat table that thin for these guys? We probably would have gotten another bottle of wine and desserts, but our relationship with the waiter quickly turned hostile and there was no saving it.

It's amazing how poorly the remainder of the evening went with the staff, but we had fun with it. They kept "forgetting" to bring our check. Passive aggressive waiter -- who'd have thunk it?

In conclusion, if you really want to park in the Da Mimmo parking lot (the only positive feature of this restaurant), just bring a Dave and Buster's token to Little Italy -- that's what the restaurant gave us to open the exit gate!
