While there are plenty of choices, Don Pepe's is our favorite Mexican along 280. While both Don Pablo's across the street near Taziki's & Superior are good, they're just too noisy & busy. Probably good for the bar scene.
We like the interior of Don Pepe's with the faux tile roofing and all the dividers which limit noise & help privacy. My only complaint on the shrimp fajitas, why do they leave the tail on? I'm sure it's easier to for them, but what pain. Either I eat them separate (then why order shrimp fajitas) or I cut the tail off. There were 8 shrimp, which equaled 2 per tortilla. I'll find something different next time.

Don Pepe was probably our family's favorite Mexican place until we discovered Pablo's across the street. The Senor Burrito is the size of a football, on an average day you'll do well to eat half of it, but that just means the other half can be eaten later at home (who doesn't love hanging at home and then suddenly remembering that they have awesome leftovers available?)

Very mediocre, not worth the high prices.

Their queso tastes like cream cheese, the fajitas were a little dry and unseasoned, their refried beans were undercooked, and their rice was dry and bland. Over all it wasn't horrible, but it definitely was poorly cooked.

Also, one of the waiters/waitresses thought it was fun to stand in the back and ring the pick up bell nonstop.

I ate there tonight and in my opinion the food bordered on being inedible. The service was on par. My fajitas were basically onions and peppers. What chicken I had was tough and flavorless. I would not eat there again if it was free.

This was our favorite Mexican restaurant in Birmingham until, to our great disappointment, all of the menu items greatly went up in price (20-30% increase). I understand the need to raise prices sometimes but this drastic change made our bill total too high for us to consider continuing to be regulars here. The food is the same- it is delicious food- I just do not think it is worth the price now.
