terrible very terrible I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone especially for the fact that all of the staff are horrible and need to be trained with customer service skills. My kids and I went there to eat breakfast a couple of days ago and we heard stuff that the customers shouldn't have heard starting with the waitresses cussing and unhappy to be there because they had only made a certain amount of tips for the whole day and that it was not even worth her time there and I am putting it nicely she was cussing and etc...... well the cooks suck they obviously don't know how to read for one thing and also cannot keep their orders straight and do not know how to cook certain items like for example they don't even put cheese in the omlettes. So we didn't even get our whole order at once because the cook messed up and made the wrong thing my order came out the wrong thing so of I had to send it back to get the right order my daughter only got half of her order and my son had to wait 5-10 minutes to get the right order. well to top it off when I went to pay I wanted to make a complaint to the manager or owner of the place which there wasn't any on site and the cook came out and started arguing and yelling at the waitress and myself because she was giving me a discount. that cook needs to be fired her name is Petra she should have never came out to argue with myself or the waitress.

Like much of south Broadway, Don's exists in a wood-paneled, smoke-stained lower class world that stopped caring about doing things differently about thirty years ago. Similar to the former Toc's Coffeehouse, it's a true diner in that the restaurant, servers, and diners have all seen better days. Comfort food is rooted in nostalgia, of course: back in those days you went to a restaurant because you liked the people, and the restaurant tried to keep you interested by doing things like Mexican nights, spaghetti nights, and chicken fried steaks. Back before we realized that it was probably better to go to a Mexican restaurant for the Mexican food and Italian restaurant for Italian food. Inappropriate burritos aside, I think the diner breakfast is a part of that nostalgia and something that can be well-accomplished in a relic like Don's.

The breakfast I ordered (eggs, hashbrowns, sausage) was stupid cheap on its own, and even more so when I substituted my toast for a half order of biscuits and gravy, which consisted of a split biscuit and a giant plate of gravy for, like, $1.39. The potato lover I am, I was disappointed to find the hashbrowns at Don's were as boring as all the others - unseasoned and only browned on one side. As I was eating, I heard a regular ask for her's "extra crispy," so they might be able to fix this in the future. It tasted like they were cooked in butter, though, which was impressive.

The rest of the meal was actually pretty good. I requested over-easy eggs, and those were exactly what I got (though also unseasoned). You have your choice of meats, and while most were pretty standard, there was a "polish sausage" that was actually really good, too. I wasn't enthralled with the gravy, but the biscuit was quite tender.

As much as I was bagging on them in the first paragraph, I'm glad there's still a place like Don's in 2013 Wichita. This type of neighborhood restaurant used to live and die by their breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and it's a testament to the number of people that jam pack the place on the weekend (not to mention the sheer variety of interesting characters here) that Don's is probably one of the few remaining restaurants of this vintage still in business.
