Had two delicious meals at the Ebbitt Room this trip to Cape May. Crab cakes on a chickpea puree & rib steak w/mashed potatoes & roasted radishes. Both excellent. And I'm hard to impress. Hope to return again!

Would not return.
The whole time every employee's agenda was to upsell. Examples:
We were early for our reservation so they told us to order drinks and wait even though the restaurant was empty.
We did not order appetizers so the waitress awkwardly says our meal will take a long time 'because' we did not order appetizers.
The waitress shoves dessert menus in our faces and said she'll be back for our order without asking if we want dessert.

Food was good though. And reasonably priced.

I judge a restaurant by the great time I had eating there so it's more than just the food. The service is great as is the food. Me and my wife had a fantastic time. It's not cheap but it's worth it. Especially if you go in the off-season as we did when other restaurants aren't really putting forth the effort.

in our experience, this has been the finest dining experience in new jersey. our recent visit in october 2012, was every bit as good the previous visits. the menu reflects state of the art creativity and the execution. even martini's arrive at the table with the tiniest shards of ice shimmering on the surface of the drink. the ebbitt room is managed by magicians.

As close as you'll get to formal dining in Cape May, this elegant, ultraclassy American in the historic Virginia Hotel offers a stellar menu crafted from local ingredients; a few feel it's too stuffy and pricey for the beach, but most say that the excellent service, wonderful period decor and great porch make it a must-try.
