Food:

I've paid $$$ for a plate of rice and beans and two tacos *Javiars* cough cough... This is not that type of place; and how refreshing. Great food. I'm reading these reviews and to me "authentic Mexican food" is not an accurate description of this place. Fresh Mexican flavors, prepared with a new and creative technique. Great atmosphere, but I wasn't too crazy on the the staff..... Would have been exceptional dining experience save for first impression of host and bartender being on their cell phone when I walked in; and during service, severs being in the bar area, doing what else? Looked like they were drinking and sounded like they were breaking glassware to me.. I'm hoping for a perfect experience next time I come in.

Expensive but worth it, especially for a special occasion. Their moles are absolutely amazing. They have about 8 different kinds and they're all delicious and complex. The interior is very pretty with all of the bottles of tequila displayed. Service is usually good. Check out their website for pictures of the interior.

Absolutely delicious! Not only is the food truly authentic, but the ambiance is a delightful representation of a classy Mexico. I recommend any of their mole sauces and for sure enjoy their fine tequilas. If you're hungry, make it a three course affair and add some sopecitos surtidos, totally one of their signature dishes.

Well deserving of a cocktail dress and can also serve up a mean shot of tequila...Yes El Agave is a rarity that combines charm, elegance and Latin flavors without being too ritzy nor causal.
Reservations aren't required but it always makes things a lot easier. Parking is plenty. Also if you are wearing heels or a short dress watch out because this place is located on the second floor and those below can take a peek at your knickers....

The service here was amazing; our waiter was knowledgeable and very enthused about the menu. All of the menu items seemed exotic (not your typical burrito joint) but our waiter broke it down for us to make it sound even more appealing than the menu description. KUDOS. Plus service was prompt!

Appetizers we got the quesadilla that were served 4 different ways. I had one that appeared to be potatoes and cheese and another that was filled with a spicy green sauce. All were crispy and scrumptious. Great way to start the meal.

As for food I got the Camaron al Tequilana (Jumbo Tiger Shrimp sautéed with extra virgin olive oil, julienne Serrano peppers, fresh lime, and lemon juice, flambé with tequila and reduced with a touch of cream. Served with Antigua black beans and Agave rice) -this was heaven. The touch of cream resonated throughout the entire dish creating a cohesive texture. It was both sweet and savory and perfect and every way. I even appreciated the "homemade" corn tortilla that came out with it. It was superb and filling!

Overall great restaurant with a great ambiance and lovely food.

Oh my god, the best tequila experience I have ever had!

The bartender explained everything in detail to us and ran us through the progression of different quality margaritas.

In addition to the straight tequila we also sampled the margarita which was the best I've ever had.

Highly recommend sitting at the bar and talking with the bartender.
