Most authentic Mexican resturant I have found in va so far. Food is amazing. I wish chips were always included with no charge but other than that I still love this place

Really like the laid back feeling! Love the way the waiters are, super nice and always on top of things! Some other restaurants the waiters are all grumpy, rude and seem to have an attitude... NOT these guys!! Totally love the food... Just noticed someone complaining about the taste, well honestly to me, it's the best around town! Nobody else, locally, has Barbacoa! This is my go to place when I'm craving it! I'm from Texas, but have been here for a while now, and honestly I haven't found a place that cooks EXACTLY like I the ones in TX, but by FAR this is the closest!! And also, did just ask the guy in front if they have alcohol and he just told us they are in the process of purchasing!!

Fail #1 no beer or alcoholic beverages! Wtf!

Fail #2 Salsa? More like tomatoe soup!!!!

Fail #3 chips were either sweet or fried more than once...

Fail #4 what "mexican" restaurant plays Justin bieber  music and reggaeton? A fake mexican or tex-mex kind???

I ordered the carne guisada tacos. Umm yea not even close to being carne guisada...I'm from San Antonio hell all over southern Texas, carne guisada is that not carne asada. I don't know if there were confused but it didn't taste nothing like carne guisada!....the barbacoa...Oh my, we'll for starters it wasn't tender like it suppose to be, no taste and it was bland. Authentic barbacoa you can smell the taste on the oil itself. No "authentic" mexican restaurant serves salad....I'll give them the rice and beans were awesome. The corn tortillas were good also but overall yea I be nice if I give them a 1 star. All those people that claim that the food was from San Antonio must be not Texans. WILL NEVER COME BACK not even if they paid me to come.

Some of the best tasting and authentic Mexican food I've had in a long time. Everything was so fresh and the service was impeccable. I'll definitely go back to El Rey again and again. The owner is very friendly and professional.
