No waiting for a table for 2 on friday during prime time.

Food: Fried chicken was extremely poor. Tasted like the chicken was boiled, fried, frozen offsite then shipped and microwaved in restaurant to reheat it in order to eat. The meat was tough, rubbery, and slimy under the breading.

Fried Cod was a slight improvement, however the breading seemed to be the same as on the chicken ... which was mostly tasteless. The fish itself tasted like a frozen fish stick. Yet even then, more edible than the chicken.

Oh, and the fries were bland and only worth the ketchup you could put on them.

But it was very busy, and despite that, the service was adequate. Certainly seems popular, but it was still the worst food of my life

I've always had great service & food has been good as well. In 4 + years of going there. I've only had 1 complaint of too Much fat on a prime rib serving, the owner took it back w\ a smile & delivered a much better cut to my liking. I recommend this establishment.

I have gone there numerous times for the Fish fry on Friday. They serve it all you can eat Family style. Decent price, good fish.

Eleven of us went on Saturday night in December 2015. Prime rib had a much fat as meat for one. Six of us ordered the garlic mashed potatoes. Cooks forgot to make them and substituted a bowl of sliced baked potatoes with some supposedly cheese sauce on them instead of asking us all if we would like a baked potato or french fries instead. Three of the steaks were ordered medium and were barely warm inside. One order was totally forgotten. The waitress was terribly embarrassed for the poor service. I called the owner the next day and Mr. Kavanaugh said he would get back to me. It's been 2-3 weeks and have heard nothing. Very bad service and the owner doesn't really care. I would not go there again for Saturday night. The Esquire should stick to only doing fish on Friday nights. If I should ever hear back from Mr. Kavanaugh I will post an update at that time.

Last Friday was our 1st time at the Esquire Club and everything was AMAZING!! The food is to die for and the serve is the best around. My husband and I moved to the Madison area just over 2 years ago and have been looking for a place just like this. Something with a great atmosphere, good serve, amazing fish fry and a nice bad to wait at. The wait is the only thing that takes a bit but once in - its no wonder. Everyone in Madison knows where to head on Friday nights:)
