This place may have been great back in the day, but I was fairly unimpressed with the ribs.

Everett & Jones from the Nickel & Dime area code.

West Coast BBQ is a notion and term that applies to ALL BBQ not from Texas, Kansas City, The Carolinas, Memphis or anywhere east of the Mississippi. With that said it’s a scraps game of trying to win the hearts and stomachs of anyone whose had Mecca level BBQ.

It’s a pretty clean joint in an otherwise ok area. Service is pretty good and the staff is nicer than expected. Portions are large and they sauce too hard. When I want Beef I want beef flavor and smoke ring. It’s missing both, it’s savory and good, but not in the melt in your mouth low and slow notion, a different beast that juicy like most people thing. Not even my first idea of when I hear E&J anything, for that I think of the Brandy. I like the fact they try and entertain, but I don’t prefer the style. Loud and takes away from the food experience. Sauce is not an ingredient people, it’s a topping or accoutrement.

Pork ribs are well done over oak. Brisket is marinated which is odd. Go with the Rib combo’s if your not staving, they are more easy to finish. Plenty of side offerings, many of which are good and you should order a few to get the real BBQ style offering. I dig the extra napkins and solid bang for your buck. Décor is homely and they offer lunch till 4pm (holla) when I decide to drive up here from Socal I can still catch lunch specials after being on the road all day.

Decent beer selection for an Oakland non bar, brewery. It’s the best in Oakland, but that’s also like getting fresh authentic sushi in South Dakota.

The barbecue was delicious, and drinks never watered down. Every Friday in Dotha's Juke Joint there is Live entertainment.

I had never even heard of this place until we were sitting in it getting ready to order. The service was timely and friendly, as well as accommodating as we had a larger sized party. The portions are pretty large, it would be easy to share with another person. The BBQ sauces are tasty. The meat was a little tough and fatty for my personal taste, but the flavor was good. Everett & Jones is worth checking out, just come starving or bring a friend to share.

"Smack your lips and lick your fingers" – "they really know how to serve up some 'cue" in "delicious abundance" at these "reasonably priced" BBQ joints; just be aware that there's counter service at the "no-frills" Berkeley and Hayward satellites, while Oakland offers "sit-down" service.
